looking more forward to the Brewers game and the Akron box score than Cleveland/Detroit, to be honest.
I still think CC will struggle today, given the playoff-type pressure on this start.
Dear Mr. Sabean, I hear you have a reputation of being stupid. Want to deal Lincecum or Cain? You can pick THREE of these 4 players for either: Borowski, Dellucci, Blake, Byrd.
4 starts! 3 bad!
Everyone who thinks CC is a choke artist can take their sample sizes and get lost.

Yah, I’m seriously debating picking up the MLB package to watch CC pitch in Milwaukee … if they can ever un-screw up their ALCS download debacle.

Oh, and who’s our 25th man for tonight?
Dear Mr. Sabean, I hear you have a reputation of being stupid. Want to deal Lincecum or Cain? You can pick THREE of these 4 players for either: Borowski, Dellucci, Blake, Byrd.
The guys on the 40-man roster who aren’t injured and aren’t on the 25 are
Zach Jackson, Reid Santos, Tony Sipp, Scott Lewis, Wyatt Toregas, Michael Aubrey, Asdrubal Cabrera, and Brad Snyder.
Jackson, Aubrey, Cabrera, and Snyder are all in the game for Buffalo right now. Sipp and Lewis are recovering from injuries, it won’t be them. Toregas and Santos are on the roster at Akron, I guess they’re possibilities, but I’m guessing they’ll add somebody who wasn’t on the 40-man roster before tonight.
by InfiniteMonkeyTypists on Jul 8, 2008 6:31 PM EDT up reply actions
Could be. Lewis is a dark horse for that question-mark rotation spot next year; I’m interested to see if he gets a call-up this season. Santos was recently, and rightfully, demoted—he’s unlikely.

Zach Jackson’s pitched 2 shutout innings in relief so far, for what it’s worth. Only allowed one hit.
The July 8 game between the Akron Aeros and Bowie Baysox at Canal Park has been postponed due to inclement weather. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Wednesday, July 9 at 6:05 p.m. Both games will be seven inning affairs.

According to ESPN, the Cubs just traded for Rich Harden and reliever Chad Gaudin from the A’s. Oakland recieved P Sean Gallagher, Of Matt Murton, IF Eric Patterson, and C Josh Donaldson.
Holy crap the brewers must be pissed..

I’m surprised Oakland did got rid of Harden already—they’re not that far behind the Angels, and have a better run differential.

Do not like it at all for Oakland, though Billy Beane is better at his job than me.
Harden is super cheap next year, too. I assume his club option travels with him?
I think that’s a great move for Chicago.
That was my gut reaction, and 10 minutes of research backed it up. See below.

yeah, my 4 minutes of research show the same… I think in a quarter of an hour of research we have conclusively proved Oakland got fleeced!
agreed, i think the value they got there was simply no where near what harden is worth. even with his risks. but we don’t make the market i guess.

I posted in the other thread, I think Oakland’s organizational efficiency is a factor here too. Beane doesn’t struggle to find warm bodies to put up good to average numbers nor does he struggle to find innings eaters.
So why not take your big trade chip and try to get the impact guy?
Was Gaudin included for Chicago’s benefit or to clear space/money for Oakland?
That catcher will probably end up an MVP.
Beane’s gonna have a hell of a lot of roster options by the time they move to Fremont.

Drubs had a double and a homerun. But he also had a K and no walks.
His OPS is still only around .800 down there. Not great but, meh. He needs to control the plate. I don’t know what to make of him.
Look at it as if he hadn’t played in Cleveland this year. You’d be saying, if he can just be a little more patient in the second half, he’ll be primed for ‘09.

I wasn’t being sarcastic. I agree. If Sowers turns it around that’s huge for what we do and don’t need in 2009.

this gets to a post i have been meaning to post in the “why it’s good to lose now” thread. it doesn’t matter much if we win or lose from here on out. but the performances of our players do matter. we want laffey and sowers to look good. we want gutierrez to start hitting big homers again. we want big league choo to look big league for awhile. we want garko to not be a pile of turd. we want carmona, hafner, and vic back and playing well. all because they help us greatly moving into next season. and if these happen, we’ll win games. if they don’t, we’ll lose games. so while wins and losses don’t matter much, the underlying performances do, and we want those to be good.

Definitely Burnett. Maaaaaybe Bedard, but I don’t think he gets traded.

No, I’m not serious.
But I’ve been considering the possibility of the Giants trading Zito to themselves on the night of a full moon, which causes a global seizure, opens a black hole, and the contract-Zito included-vanishes forever.
Possible? Perhaps. But I find it unlikely.
i think woody paige would tell you that the giants are likely to throw zito the rockies way in the all-but-agreed-to lincecum-for-holliday deal. in fact, zito may be the piece that gets the deal over the hump

nothing personal, chuck, but to me this attitude is just silly. this is professional sports in the 21st century, it’s just reality. cc pitched his heart out for this organization and has earned (relatively) every dime of the $130mm he’s going to get paid. i can’t fault a guy for being lured by a contract like that. i’ll cheer him except when he plays the tribe.

Well this is interesting.
I just got a text from a guy I know who lives in Huntsville, Alabama—a Cubs fan, oddly enough—who was at the Huntsville Stars (AA, where LaPorta came from) game last night. He wanted to let me know that he ended up meeting and chatting with an Indians scout while he was there.
I quizzed him a little bit for info. They spoke for only a brief time. The scout said he was here scouting the PTBNL.
This is of course puzzling because neither Green nor Brantley were there. Of course the scout wasn’t at liberty to say who he was scouting specifically.
Steel Nick
am I missing something with Cain? I mean, his stats don’t really impress me compared to some of his teammates.

I assume Brantley is there, just not playing.
"A good body with a dull brain is as cheap as life itself."
Watch him work out, run, hit in the cage, talk to coaches, whatever. And if you have to be in Huntsville anyway, there’s not a whole hell of a lot to do, may as well catch a ballgame.
"A good body with a dull brain is as cheap as life itself."
This actually makes sense. I was really confused for a second. If the PTBNL ended up being neither Bradley nor Green, that would throw my head for a loop.
Steel Nick
Jonathan Lucroy is there, and playing. He DH’d last night, and is catching tonight.

How soon til Carmona gets back? Sowers isn’t fooling anyone; he looks like he’s shot putting the ball at the plate.
That’s just the problem. Sowers really needs to become a major league pitcher or the Indians are going to have to expend resources on starters (I don’t think Byrd will be back next year), which, given their bullpen and the state of their offense, they can’t really afford. I was hoping he was going to settle down, but it doesn’t look like it at all.
I thought I would be excited to see CC pitch tonight…but actually became depressed when I saw another fanbase cheering him. It’s kind of like watching an ex-girlfriend hook up.

Damn, we have become the Royals. Actually worse, the Royals could actually score runs and be competitive within the division.
Currently the worst BA in the American League. Even with a 2006 Hafner and a 2007 Victor and 25 homers from LaPorta, the Tribe’s offense won’t be good enough to win in 2009.
If you pointed out how bad our OBP is (11th)- something that correlated more towards offense—or the 387 runs we’ve scored (10th)- the thing that actually is offense—I’d be more inclined to listen.
Steel Nick
Any way you slice it, the offense is appalling. Will this team score 600 runs? (That’s a rhetorical question; I would think they would.)
