I don’t know if I can watch this game…..did you know that Aaron Rodgers is starting for Green Bay tonight?!? This is going to be the most-analyzed preseason game ever.
The Shin-Soo Choo of LGT.
Really, is nobody here tonight? I was just kidding about the football game…..I didn’t mean to send everyone away!

Wow, this guy sucks.
He is the anti-fausto.

Is that Meg Ryan behind home plate?

Carlos Santana (Kinston C from Blake deal) hit another HR tonight in his first at bat (first inning). He’s OPSing over 1.000 on the year.
I’m not so confident about this game.

Classic Fausto
If you need me, I'll be senselessly rooting for Sizemore 40/40 for the remainder of 2008.
I mean, early season Fausto was still pretty walk-tastic.
Was he hanging out with Daniel Cabrera in the off-season?
If you need me, I'll be senselessly rooting for Sizemore 40/40 for the remainder of 2008.
When can we have Classic Fausto back? You remember him, the big lovable Dominican sidekick with the sick groundball ratios, dominating performances and the propensity to hit Dustin PEDroia.
I miss that guy.

Rays lose Longoria to the DL with a fractured wrist (HBP by JJ Putz). Bummer. I don’t want the Red Sox to catch them.

I have such an awesome “MARTE PARTAY” sign my friend made for me last week and I don’t even think I want to use it anymore when I go to a game later this week. So depressing.

All I know is that the season is lost and you have a choice of batting a former-prospect-could-be-your-starting-3rd-baseman-next-season and a career utility infielder, both of whom are righties facing a righty, and you choose Carroll. Wedge still sucks.

Is it just me, or are we looking at some run-of-the-mill offensive performances this season when Grady is a legit MVP candidate?

sports illustrated all but handed the MVP to ian kinsler in the most recent issue…i realize he’s playing great ball, but he may not be the MVP on his own squad…i’m looking at you ramon vazquez

Okay, just got caught up.
When did Dellucci stop sucking? Well, I could tell you it was a month ago — 1000+ OPS since July 10 — but that would be a lie, because he actually had a 666 OPS from July 10 to August 1.
Since August 1 … 1802 OPS! .647 / .684 / 1.118 … “Waiver? Damn near killed ‘er!”
i still hate him so much my armpits smell

Morneau is gonna steal another one.
If you need me, I'll be senselessly rooting for Sizemore 40/40 for the remainder of 2008.
eh.. I kind of buy into that mythical “closer’s mentality” stuff. Donnelly has proven to have it, Meloan is still an unknown.
He’s got FOUR career saves.
If you need me, I'll be senselessly rooting for Sizemore 40/40 for the remainder of 2008.
I could be wrong, but I thought if Donnelly was in the majors by Aug 6th we had an option on him next year? Or was that just to keep him this year?
Donnlley is very elbow-y.
If you need me, I'll be senselessly rooting for Sizemore 40/40 for the remainder of 2008.
Now on to Marte. No real reason to be down on him.
He’s been a regular more or less since July 4, and his numbers are .221/.275/.368 — not good, certainly, but also not atrocious considering he had barely played at all since Spring Training before that point. This basically is his Spring Training, and there’s just no sense fretting over five weeks.
For another perspective … as of July 5, his numbers were .125 / .169 / .143, so that’s a 312 OPS during the “domino days” vs. 648 OPS since then. That is a trend in the right direction, and he is very, very likely to finish the season over .200, for those who care about that.
please finish over .200…I’m going to have a hard time pushing for him in the offseason with a sub-200 average
.202 really changes that?
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
Well, do the math. Domino days … .125 average in only 56 AB. Since then … .221 average in 95 AB. So he’s on pace to bring it up to 200 in another 100 AB or so.
He also has a terribly unlucky .225 BABIP — which might seem like it can’t just be bad luck, but remember, it’s only 164 PA, about six weeks of regular playing time, and it’s just not that weird to have that extreme of a BABIP. His PrOPS is 650 … slashed out to .233 / .285 / .366 … and that’s taking into account groundballs vs. line drives vs. flyballs vs. popups.
So he’s merely been bad … and aside from the domino days, not incomprehensibly bad. He’s not Mickey Rouse up there.
I think his defense has saved him for another look next year. Even Antonetti referred to him as a “plus defender”. So, the FO at least recognizes it. Plus, there is not much out there for a 3B FA.
CASEY BLAKE
< /wedge>
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
i gotta figure casey didn’t even cover his pool at his house in cleveland. the guy is all but back next year, which is awesome.

I just hope they seriously entertain the idea of shifting Jhonny over to 3b. With the relative paucity of 3Bs set to be on the FA market next season, and with Marte’s apparent inability to produce anything above “fringe MLB player”, in order to stave off any ideas of bringing back Wedge I just think they must consider moving over Jhonny.
Why do people keep bringing this up. Essentially you’re saying:
Peralta + Asdrubal + Carroll/Barfield
is greater than
Marte + Perata + Asdrubal
If you need me, I'll be senselessly rooting for Sizemore 40/40 for the remainder of 2008.
I’m just saying it’s worth considering. And it’s not Peralta+Asdrubal+Barfield/Carrol but Peralta+Droobal+FA signing. I would agree that Marte is at least equal to Barfield/Carroll and he has much greater potential. I think Peralta+Marte+Droobal is better than Peralta+Droobal+Blake, and a resigning of Blake is what I fear most.
I see.
And which FA 2B is it that’s going to make that greater-than construction compute?
And how much will that cost us?
i was watching a dodger/d-back broadcast and heard vin scully say “o-dog anxiously awaiting the throw” about hudson…a life highlight, to be sure

Shapiro, two weeks ago, making perfectly clear that he will not be doing what you think he must do:
That’s kind of a sore subject for me because I think Jhonny gets kind of beat up unjustly. I think the reason why is the easiest tool to identify in the game is speed and so guys see a guy that – they look for a shortstop and they think it should be a guy who can run fast. But Jhonny is as dependable and reliable on the average play as any SS in the game. He doesn’t have exceptional range but he makes the plays he needs to make and he’s developing into a hitter who has some tremendous ceiling. Though I do think his body is so big he’s going to outgrow that position at some point. But that point may be two, three, four years down the road, I’m not sure.
I love Shapiro.

They managed to dig up someone to commentate on water polo, you’re telling me they couldn’t find a swimming commentator?
Despite all of my best intentions, I have not, in fact, grown up to be a debaser.
They have plenty of swimming commentators who actually know what they’re talking about. NBC is just trying to turn Collinsworth into Bob Trumpy, Football Guy Who Talks About Other Sports, Too. Ironic, since Collinsworth replaced Trumpy on Cincinnati radio when Trumpy left to join NBC as FGWTAOST. Apparently, WLW is the Carolina League for the Summer Olympics.
anyone else notice that collinsworth (whom i like as a commentator, by the way, hated as a receiver) says NOTHING of value or substance on the set w/ costas? last night, costas asked cc about the US/China game, “man, it was something” was cc’s penetrating insight
