Crap. The first game I’ve had a chance to sit down and watch in a while, and I’m blacked out on EI becuase of Baltimore.
Burn on, big river, burn on...
The local channel splits between Nats and Orioles games. It sucks.

I’m watching the game at work (in Dulles) on basic cable, I get two MASN channels, one has the Nats, the other has the O’s
Wait, really? What’s the second MASN chanel?

don’t we always blow it to these kind of guys? soft-tossing lefties that we haven’t faced before?
i’ll call 4 hits total for the night. 5 walks, 3 GIDP.
Although he might not have touched home plate . . .

David Ortiz, in the first inning: 2 HR, 6 RBI.
In ONE inning!
10-0 Boston.
You have no idea the physical toll that three vasectomies have on a person
And can you share some with Marte?
Andy Marte is free at last! Now, if only he could hit a breaking ball...

That was not a good at-bat by Grady – lefties still give him fits at times, something he must continually work at. In that situation especially, you want him to pull the ball to move the runner to 3B.
Fortunately, we tacked on anyway thanks to Baltimore’s poor defense (4 Es so far is more than the 2 Rs or 3 H they have to this point).
The "cream of the crop" doesn't always rise to the top.
No offense to Manning, what does he mean “Peralta will not remain in the cleanup spot when Martinez and Hafner come back?”
Both need time to get reacclimated to game action, and personally, I think Victor might be your best pure hitter, and would fit better in the #3 spot, where he did hit quite often over his Indians’ tenure. Plus, in my opinion, Peralta has more pure power than Victor – Victor can hit some HRs, but a combination of AVG and power is his main strength. While Peralta can hit for some average as well, Victor has the better pure hitting ability, which is why I’d like to see Victor hit 3rd and keep Peralta 4th.
As for Hafner, he doesn’t see the middle of the order until he proves he can hit more like he did between 2004-2006. Start him off in the 6 or 7 spot; if his performance warrants it, then move him up to the 5-spot, maybe the 4-spot if he really excels AND Peralta really falters.
Peralta has really acclimated to the cleanup spot, with less protection than he would get if Martinez and Hafner return to their productive selves and were batting 3 and 5 respectively. Therefore, I don’t see why Peralta has to move out of that cleanup spot just because those two return. If circumstances warrant it, fine, but their return alone should not just necessitate Peralta moving out of the cleanup spot.
Manning didn’t even seem that convinced that Peralta could handle the 5-spot – he has been watching Peralta lately, hasn’t he? Peralta hasn’t just been hot for a few games or even a week; it’s been more like 4-6 weeks, pretty much ever since Victor went out with his injury. Why mess with a good thing by moving Peralta out of the cleanup spot – that makes no sense to me.
Just my 2 cents – no offense.
The "cream of the crop" doesn't always rise to the top.
I’ve always thought Peralta’s power was unholy and unpure.

Yeah we don’t have much of a chance. Although it’d be a totally different story if Scott Richmond was still on our roster! haha I’m assuming you guys heard about that story with Ricciardi?
by supermarioelia on Aug 12, 2008 8:52 PM EDT up reply actions
Richmond is a AAA pitcher with the Jays, and was slated to be our ace at the Olympics, and Ricciardi called him up a couple of weeks ago, which made him ineligible for the Olympics of course. This really bristled pretty much the entire country, not because the move was made since obviously JP’s job is to make the Jays better, but because he described the Olympics as being pretty much meaningless in comparison to the chance of getting to the majors. Even some of the Canadian players made comments to the effect that his attitude in interviews made them quite upset. Bottom line, for a guy who Jays fans cannot stand, you’d think he’d be more diplomatic about things.

Hammy says it’s likely to be Jackson this week … with Laffey also getting some starts this month. He was also shitting on Joba a few minutes ago.
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
Exactly. He’s gotta be like a dog and erase from his mind an event that occurred even just five minutes ago. The throws are mutually exclusive events, and the gamble on this last one was crap.
Haha c’mon you must get the gist of it.

After Boston scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first, Texas has come back with 8 runs in the top of the 4th & now it’s a 12-10 Boston lead. Looks like Zink doesn’t have that Wakefield magic.

To be fair, Wedge used him like an 80-inning reliever for the first three months of the season. He threw exactly 40 innings in the first three months after having thrown 47 TOTAL last season in Japan.
Think he’s tired?
Hammy and Hegan are reading this, for sure.
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
Indians 3-13 when tied after 7, 2-46 when trailing after 7
they better rally in the bottom of the 7th as they did last night
2-46 … that’s fucking stellar.

by supermarioelia on Aug 12, 2008 10:17 PM EDT reply actions
Jamey Wright (!!) in for the stRangers, PEDroia base knock, Ortiz walk and Then Wright throws one to center on a comebacker
Now 16-15, still 1st and 2nd, no outs
What a nutty game
And Wright escapes without yielding another run. Although the Red Sox still have two more cracks at the Texas bullpen ….. is Guardado their closer these days?
I just figured out what the Indians’ problem is this year—we didn’t get to play the Orioles until August.

When I think about it these days, I’m not sure what would have ripped our hearts out worse: the Indians having the potential tying run stopped at second (followed by that GIDP that we all saw coming), or seeing that Lofton run score, everyone going absoluelt apeshit, and THEN having that godawful seventh and eighth inning happen.
