Has anyone else completely lost faith in Garko?

by bewwolv on Aug 15, 2008 7:44 PM EDT reply actions

raises hand. I don’t know how much “faith” I had in him…but I did think he was set up for a very good year.

by APV on Aug 15, 2008 7:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Yea, I agree with that. I didn’t think he was going to establish himself as our first baseman of the future, but I don’t see him as even a placeholder at this point.

Along with all the recent signings, I am pretty excited for this years draft.

by bewwolv on Aug 15, 2008 7:51 PM EDT up reply actions

the early returns aren’t bad, although no one is really on a “fast track” to the majors right now

by APV on Aug 15, 2008 7:53 PM EDT up reply actions

It seems there is a lot of “projectability”, most notably in Haley

by bewwolv on Aug 15, 2008 7:58 PM EDT up reply actions

In the irrational hope department, Kelvin Diaz has not seen game action since Mon.
A) visa issues resolved, on his way to the states
B) injured, no real drama
C) Indians discover he is, in fact, 37, and move him direcly to first base coach

by bewwolv on Aug 15, 2008 7:53 PM EDT reply actions

andy marte is afraid…I’ll bet Kelvin grows a mean beard

by APV on Aug 15, 2008 7:54 PM EDT up reply actions

I bet the beard is what got him the first base coach job. The beard love spans the entire organization

by bewwolv on Aug 15, 2008 7:58 PM EDT up reply actions

Strangely, Abner Abreu and Kelvin Diaz are from the same hometown (San Pedro de Macoris)

by bewwolv on Aug 15, 2008 8:02 PM EDT up reply actions

let’s just hope they don’t have the same birth certificate….although I suppose any birth certificate would be an improvement for Diaz

by APV on Aug 15, 2008 8:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Upon further investigation, they share the same hometown as Sammy Sosa, Fernando Tatis, Alfonso Soriano, and the immortal Guillermo Mota (along with 69 other former and present major leaguers)

Bleachers, about 6 rows up

by bewwolv on Aug 15, 2008 8:08 PM EDT up reply actions

by ahowie on Aug 15, 2008 8:09 PM EDT up reply actions

small world. those college id nights are always fun. that must have been in the ninth, I had to leave before then, my buddy had to walk over to superior to get his wife, and we left from there.

by bewwolv on Aug 15, 2008 8:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah it was in the ninth. He had a glove and snagged it over the railing to the entrance to one of the sections. He was very casual about the catch which made it cooler.

I just did a quick run-through of the Indians top 20 draft picks or so….nobody blowing the competition out of the water, but a lot of decent performances. Could be fun to watch next year when more of them move into full-season leagues.

by APV on Aug 15, 2008 8:26 PM EDT reply actions

I would imagine Rivero will stay in Kinston next year, but Mills, Wegz, and Santana will be quite a trio next year in Akron.

by bewwolv on Aug 15, 2008 8:35 PM EDT up reply actions

I wouldn’t be surprised if Rivero gets moved up next year. There’s not a lot of middle infield depth in the upper minors and Rivero’s plate discipline has been stable.

by APV on Aug 15, 2008 8:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Yea, he has been pretty stable statistically, although more power would be nice. He is just so young. I guess that should be reason for excitement, not hesitance.

So we’re all at the point where we strictly look for big picture moments, right? Well as great as taking the lead there was, what was possibly big picture about those atbats? I guess Droobs did take four straight balls.

droobs has regained his plate discipline since being recalled in July. BB% back over 10%.

Who would you say the other two are? Sizemore and…?

by Jeffrey R on Aug 15, 2008 9:28 PM EDT up reply actions

I was thinking in terms of how the variance in their performance will impact us. I count Sizemore as a given. I would say Lee, Carmona and Hafner.

by APV on Aug 15, 2008 9:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Hafner hasn’t been good for like 18 months.

Words do not do justice to my hatred for Boston sports teams.

by FaustosSinkingFastball on Aug 15, 2008 9:31 PM EDT up reply actions

I’ve heard of the first two.

by SuddenSam on Aug 15, 2008 9:31 PM EDT up reply actions

I worry about Victor too. Hey, any word on his rehab tonight?

0-2 with a BB and a K

by APV on Aug 15, 2008 9:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Hmmm. Well, here’s hoping that when the hits start up again, they are of the multi-base variety.

by Jeffrey R on Aug 15, 2008 9:33 PM EDT up reply actions

peralta’s lack of focus is contagious I guess .. only way to explain that one.

Alright someone help me out, what’s a legit zip code and TV service provider I can use to get onto NBC’s coverage. Apparently Comcast isn’t available in the 90210, and those are the only zip codes and providers I know.

by supermarioelia on Aug 15, 2008 9:35 PM EDT reply actions

52245, mediacom. idk if it’ll work though

by Gradyforpresident on Aug 15, 2008 9:35 PM EDT up reply actions

by supermarioelia on Aug 15, 2008 9:38 PM EDT up reply actions

don’t have it on, and i’m too busy deciding whether i want to eat or drink to move the 3 feet between me and the tv

by Gradyforpresident on Aug 15, 2008 9:39 PM EDT up reply actions

That’s actually me and GFP wrestling in the 135lb category.

I maxed out around 160 my senior year in college. I’m about 150 now.

It’s all muscle though, I swear.

I thought heavyweight was like 200. I don’t know though.

some sort of Chipmunks version of “Beds are burning” in the background for beach volleyball. China is a weird wild place.

Nice. Hopefully they can provide a bit of cushion for Lewis.

by Jeffrey R on Aug 15, 2008 9:38 PM EDT reply actions

by Jeffrey R on Aug 15, 2008 9:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, no way you take Cliff out now.

by Ryan on Aug 15, 2008 9:38 PM EDT reply actions

Thank you all for your zip codes. Doesn’t appear I can watch, it’s not loading well.

by supermarioelia on Aug 15, 2008 9:39 PM EDT reply actions

Try a Buffalo or Detroit zip, that would be plausible.

by Ryan on Aug 15, 2008 9:40 PM EDT up reply actions

don’t they cross-check your IP address or something?

by APV on Aug 15, 2008 9:41 PM EDT up reply actions

They do when I’m trying to watch NBC shows off of their website. For some reason this is attempting to load, but is just struggling. Whatever, all I needed to watch was the wrestling.

by supermarioelia on Aug 15, 2008 9:41 PM EDT up reply actions

is baseball live for you up there? or you watch on cbc or something online

by Gradyforpresident on Aug 15, 2008 9:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Thanks to that phelps guy it’ll probably be only online. Some of it will likely be on tv, but certainly not the whole game. Most of the morning games are broadcast in their entirety on TSN.

Cliff’s got to be in the pole position for the Cy Young right now

by APV on Aug 15, 2008 9:53 PM EDT reply actions

If by pole position, you mean he’s lapped the rest of the field with like 1 lap left, then yes.

I was prompted by him doing a voice-over in a tribute commercial to Michael Phelps…wonder when that was recorded…

From Roger Ebert’s review of The Bucket List:

The film opens with yet another voiceover narration by Morgan Freeman, extolling the saintly virtues of a white person who deserves our reverence.
