Why is David [censored] Dellucci batting? and in the three hole?
There, now that I have complained .. he will go 2 for 4 with an rbi.

from the PD today:
“But lately, Dellucci has had one of the team’s hottest bats. Hitting .441 (15-of-34) with three homers this month, the left-hander has lifted his average to a respectable .253 — a 30-point improvement from a month ago.”
not saying I agree with it, just saying…

Because he’s HOT-he’s 15 for his last 34 (.441) and 25 for his last 72 (.347). And probably because he’s got $4 million left on his contract.
Or maybe because Sal Fasano thinks he’s handsome. I don’t know, man.

Same here, I guess. I don’t really expect much out of next year’s team. But I think it’s still a legit question — I just don’t see how we can carry a RF who’s OPSing 645, but I also don’t really see a replacement on the horizon.
Unless LaPorta starts the year in LF and Choo is our starting RF? Could happen.

Ok, first off, I sit 12’ from my TV and I’m hoping that a 52" will work.
Do I need 120mhz refresh hotness?
LCD or Plasma? I don’t have a light issue in the room.
I’d like to be around $2k.
If it says 1920×1280, can I actually connect a computer to that and it look good?
Does HDMI spy on me?
How do I get the Indians in HD in Atlanta GA?

here’s what they say:
CR’s Take
This 52-inch 1080p model from Samsung is one of the best TVs we’ve ever tested. It has excellent picture quality across the board, and was one of the few tested models with excellent sound.
Highs
Excellent picture quality across the board, with top-notch detail that makes the most of HD programming. Has very accurate colors and better than average black levels. Contrast was very good, giving images depth and dimension. Excellent reproduction of scenes with subtly shaded light-to-dark areas. Excellent film-mode operation effectively eliminates jagged edges—“jaggies”— on movie content. Has 120Hz technology that effectively reduces—but does not eliminate—motion blur. The remote control is very easy to use; its backlit buttons make them easy to see in the dark. On-screen menu is very easy to navigate.
Lows
Viewing angle was somewhat limited, so the picture lost some color, contrast, or brightness as we moved away from the center of the screen. Touch-sensitive controls on console are poorly labeled and difficult to read.

the prices seem to vary a lot between models and sizes and depending on which ones are on sale. I was looking for a smaller tv and found a 40" Samsung with a fantastic picture. I ended up going with a 47" LG that still had a great picture, but not quite as great, but for just $70 more.

I have a 40" Samsung and it is freaking awesome. The picture on it is just fantastic — every bit as good as the Sonys IMO — and it was pretty affordable. I think Samsung pretty much always has the best price/performance ratio.

I can only answer some of these questions.
I sit about 10’ and have a 47" which is great. I would think 52" would be fine for you (if you’re picking the TV up at the store, bring a BIG car. The box will be huge.
Yes, I would go with the 120mhz.
If light isn’t an issue, I’d lean towards plasma, but compare costs and picture quality of specific models to choose which you’d prefer. I think the difference between the two, especially on newer models, isn’t that great.
I think it will be fine when you hook up a computer.
I don’t know about the HDMI quesiton.
I’d say MLB extra innings for the last one, but I don’t know if they broadcast in HD.
Where do you live in Atlanta? I spent 4 years there in college (Emory).

Yeah, but we thought he was burned out in the playoffs last season. Look at how well he turned out anyway. You could be right, but CC is such a horse that I wouldn’t be against signing him, even though we all know it’s impossible.

I guess Yost is rationalizing by thinking “this is pretty much our shot of winning the World Series, and my job is on the line.”
But still, that could come back to bite the Brewers down the stretch.

Even that, I mean, there’s NOBODY that can protect a six run lead with two to play? I mean, even pitching the 8th is (I think he finished the 8th around 115 pitches) but the 9th… just stupid.

They sort of had to. They weren’t as bad as they were playing after C.C. was traded. They aren’t the second- or third-worst team in the majors. Remember: they were in first place on May 15 when interleague play started. The Reds et al. sent the Tribe reeling for quite a while. Went 6-12 against NL, the worst AL record.

A better hitting team, for sure. Defensively and starting pitching has taken a nosedive. But the bullpen is doing better.

This was probably the worst of Reyes’ three starts for the Tribe (statistically – I didn’t actually see any of the game on TV). He went 5 innings instead of 6, and walked three. Overall, he’s proving to be adequate 5th starter material, with a 2.60 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 17.1 IP over the 3 starts. His K/BB ratio isn’t anything to write home about at 1.16.
What success he’s having seems to be driven by keeping the ball down more and decreasing the velocity on his fastball. Compare the average vertical break and velocity last night to his worst relief appearance (4/23/08 vs PIT, 3 ER on 4 H in 1 IP):
8/19/08 89.66 MPH Avg, 93.4 MPH Max, 5.76 Avg V-Break (69.6% strikes)
4/23/08 92.86 MPH Avg, 94.1 MPH Max, 8.23 Avg V-Break (62.5% strikes)
His other pitches are down as well, about an inch on the change and 2.25 on the curve. In each of his starts, he’s been keeping the fastball down more (8.23 in — 6.72 in — 5.76 in V-Break).
