Why is David [censored] Dellucci batting? and in the three hole?
There, now that I have complained .. he will go 2 for 4 with an rbi.
from the PD today:
“But lately, Dellucci has had one of the team’s hottest bats. Hitting .441 (15-of-34) with three homers this month, the left-hander has lifted his average to a respectable .253 — a 30-point improvement from a month ago.”
not saying I agree with it, just saying…
Because he’s HOT-he’s 15 for his last 34 (.441) and 25 for his last 72 (.347). And probably because he’s got $4 million left on his contract.
Or maybe because Sal Fasano thinks he’s handsome. I don’t know, man.

Anyone know anything about TVs? I’m looking at getting a bigass flat panel and have some questions.
If you need me, I'll be senselessly rooting for Sizemore 40/40 for the remainder of 2008.
I also would like to add that, unfortunately, I am not a physics professor.

So is this Hochevar guy “THE TRUTH” or not? He doesn’t look that intimidating. How old is he?

See Skinner. SEE!!? SEE?!?! HOW HARD IS THAT?!

Nice inning.
Didn’t Royals Review used to only get like 30 comments per game last year? I logged over there this morning and they actually had overflow game threads!
Reyes is just so good

Give that ball a good PLTBNin’, Jhonny. I want to see some flippin’ offense.

It doesn’t seem like Reyes is hitting his spots consistently, but there’s a lot of action on the ball. The arm is live, I’ll give him that.

Same here, I guess. I don’t really expect much out of next year’s team. But I think it’s still a legit question — I just don’t see how we can carry a RF who’s OPSing 645, but I also don’t really see a replacement on the horizon.
Unless LaPorta starts the year in LF and Choo is our starting RF? Could happen.
hey gte, if you’re around, I just bought a big flat-screen two weeks ago and might be able to answer some of your questions
and I just sat back down, I am now compiling. I hope you’re a physics professor.

Ok, first off, I sit 12’ from my TV and I’m hoping that a 52" will work.
Do I need 120mhz refresh hotness?
LCD or Plasma? I don’t have a light issue in the room.
I’d like to be around $2k.
If it says 1920×1280, can I actually connect a computer to that and it look good?
Does HDMI spy on me?
How do I get the Indians in HD in Atlanta GA?

Oh, and I’m looking at this one.

here’s what they say:
CR’s Take
This 52-inch 1080p model from Samsung is one of the best TVs we’ve ever tested. It has excellent picture quality across the board, and was one of the few tested models with excellent sound.
Highs
Excellent picture quality across the board, with top-notch detail that makes the most of HD programming. Has very accurate colors and better than average black levels. Contrast was very good, giving images depth and dimension. Excellent reproduction of scenes with subtly shaded light-to-dark areas. Excellent film-mode operation effectively eliminates jagged edges—“jaggies”— on movie content. Has 120Hz technology that effectively reduces—but does not eliminate—motion blur. The remote control is very easy to use; its backlit buttons make them easy to see in the dark. On-screen menu is very easy to navigate.
Lows
Viewing angle was somewhat limited, so the picture lost some color, contrast, or brightness as we moved away from the center of the screen. Touch-sensitive controls on console are poorly labeled and difficult to read.
that’s a great TV. it’s expensive, but it’s probably a good price given what you are getting (free shipping is nice, too)
What’s the range? I thought it was kinda in the middle. I’m not a videophile by any stretch, but I saw a side-by-side of the 120hz refresh at Best Buy and think I need that.
If you need me, I'll be senselessly rooting for Sizemore 40/40 for the remainder of 2008.
the prices seem to vary a lot between models and sizes and depending on which ones are on sale. I was looking for a smaller tv and found a 40" Samsung with a fantastic picture. I ended up going with a 47" LG that still had a great picture, but not quite as great, but for just $70 more.
I have a 40" Samsung and it is freaking awesome. The picture on it is just fantastic — every bit as good as the Sonys IMO — and it was pretty affordable. I think Samsung pretty much always has the best price/performance ratio.
I think I’m sold.
If you need me, I'll be senselessly rooting for Sizemore 40/40 for the remainder of 2008.
i have a 52" Samsung with slightly less than the 120hz refresh…and it is quite dope. highly recommend.

I can only answer some of these questions.
I sit about 10’ and have a 47" which is great. I would think 52" would be fine for you (if you’re picking the TV up at the store, bring a BIG car. The box will be huge.
Yes, I would go with the 120mhz.
If light isn’t an issue, I’d lean towards plasma, but compare costs and picture quality of specific models to choose which you’d prefer. I think the difference between the two, especially on newer models, isn’t that great.
I think it will be fine when you hook up a computer.
I don’t know about the HDMI quesiton.
I’d say MLB extra innings for the last one, but I don’t know if they broadcast in HD.
Where do you live in Atlanta? I spent 4 years there in college (Emory).

I’m conflicted. On one hand thank fucking christ Grady finally hit another dinger, but I was kind of hoping to see Stomp tonight. I think the Lewis-for-closer movement might be the most interesting thing this season so far for me.
Grady’s pace: 37/40

Anybody else watch CC throw 130 pitches in a 9-2, complete game win?
What a stupid, stupid thing to do, Mr. Manager.
If you need me, I'll be senselessly rooting for Sizemore 40/40 for the remainder of 2008.
I saw that earlier and gasped. CC is obviously very manly, but that is a very unfair thing to do to the guy when he is about to become a FA and get an uber-deal.
Also stupid for the Brewers. I mean, they’re trying to win the World Series. They’re just killing his arm.
It was 9 to f-ing 2. This is simply not justifyable.
If you need me, I'll be senselessly rooting for Sizemore 40/40 for the remainder of 2008.
7-2 after 6. 8-2 after 7. I agree. No reason CC should have been out there. That is just poor pitching management.
but how else is he going to win the NL Cy Young AND MVP??

Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
I guess Yost is rationalizing by thinking “this is pretty much our shot of winning the World Series, and my job is on the line.”
But still, that could come back to bite the Brewers down the stretch.
Even that, I mean, there’s NOBODY that can protect a six run lead with two to play? I mean, even pitching the 8th is (I think he finished the 8th around 115 pitches) but the 9th… just stupid.
If you need me, I'll be senselessly rooting for Sizemore 40/40 for the remainder of 2008.
Wells actually pitched 12 days ago. THat’s much more recent than I expected.

that’s what I’ve had for 2.5 years. about to get a new laptop, but I’m hoping this one stays alive for another year or two.
I just keep upgrading the components one at a time. When it started to get slow, I fired another GB of RAM in there and it was like a whole new laptop. I wired up a Bluetooth transmitter inside and boom! I can use the latest stuff.
I’m going to fire an SSD in this thing when they come down and bet I can use this thing for another couple years.

the only problem I’ve had is with the stupid power cord. I think the fan might have some issues too, because it gets a little too hot for my comfort.
Nobody look now, but Raffy Betancourt just threw a swing and miss fastball on the inside corner.

One thing I love about playing the Royals is how they seem to tell this story about EVERY player:
"Yeah < insert name > was really a highly thought of guy from < insert organization > for a few years but he never really got (the opportunity/development/attention/reps) he needed to blossom into a major contributor, but now he’s with the Royals and hitting 220/315/400.
If you need me, I'll be senselessly rooting for Sizemore 40/40 for the remainder of 2008.
That’ll put his August OPS over 1.000. Dellucci, Garko, Gutz, even Betancourt. Maybe we should have de-gritted the clubhouse earlier.
Ehhh, I still think Lewis. There will be plenty of games they are losing in the next two weeks for Masa to get some work in.

They sort of had to. They weren’t as bad as they were playing after C.C. was traded. They aren’t the second- or third-worst team in the majors. Remember: they were in first place on May 15 when interleague play started. The Reds et al. sent the Tribe reeling for quite a while. Went 6-12 against NL, the worst AL record.
Well, they are a different team.
A better hitting team, for sure. Defensively and starting pitching has taken a nosedive. But the bullpen is doing better.
When you can hit (like May and June), it just magnifies how awful a bullpen is.
How did Reyes look? I continue to hold out hope that he can be 5th starter material.
Despite all of my best intentions, I have not, in fact, grown up to be a debaser.
This was probably the worst of Reyes’ three starts for the Tribe (statistically – I didn’t actually see any of the game on TV). He went 5 innings instead of 6, and walked three. Overall, he’s proving to be adequate 5th starter material, with a 2.60 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 17.1 IP over the 3 starts. His K/BB ratio isn’t anything to write home about at 1.16.
What success he’s having seems to be driven by keeping the ball down more and decreasing the velocity on his fastball. Compare the average vertical break and velocity last night to his worst relief appearance (4/23/08 vs PIT, 3 ER on 4 H in 1 IP):
8/19/08 89.66 MPH Avg, 93.4 MPH Max, 5.76 Avg V-Break (69.6% strikes)
4/23/08 92.86 MPH Avg, 94.1 MPH Max, 8.23 Avg V-Break (62.5% strikes)
His other pitches are down as well, about an inch on the change and 2.25 on the curve. In each of his starts, he’s been keeping the fastball down more (8.23 in — 6.72 in — 5.76 in V-Break).
Joba Justin Chamberlain
There, fixed.
And if you went up to a Yankee fan and said “Chamberlain has a fake tan”, I bet they’d get pissed at you.
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
