Hope Franky had another good game. I really want him to be on the team next year. If I had to to choose between him and Marte (on who I want to see succeed), I would pick Gootz.
Surprised to see Shoppach in there. Wedge is usually a firm believer in the day game after a night game, go with the backup catcher rule.
I was really hoping Sal might play today. I have a feeling his days with the Indians are numbered.

A strict platoon of Gutz and Choo in RF next season wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, but only if they finally solve that LF position by not playing any more “4th outfielder types” there.
That should/could be a new entry in the “3 worst words in baseball” thread..also “Right Field platoon” is up there.

Very true. Although Choo isn’t going to hit lefties, but is worthy of starting due to his OBP skills vs. righties. Gutz, is a defensive wunderkind but hell if he can hit. His spot might be taken over by Francisco, but he isn’t hitting that well anymore either, so its a mess right now. God Laporta needs to stick in LF.

Pronk was 1-for-2 with a 2B and two BBs yesterday. Victor gets a start this afternoon, in about half an hour.
Muchas gracias amigos.

FWIW, Castrovince reporting: “The Saturday, Aug. 30, game against the Mariners will not be televised by FOX, as previously expected, and will instead be a WTAM and Indians Radio Network exclusive.”

Shoppach went with Door #2 (nothing). I would have preferred Door #1 (all).

I am really glad this game is happening right now, because I was watching whatever this bullshit dancing thing on NBC is right now.

COME ON GRADY… I’ll admit, I forgot.
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
Why is Carroll playing instead of Marte? I don’t think Marte can hit at all, but I don’t understand this. Some decision needs to be made about 3B next year, and this stuff is not helping.
This I think says it all about Wedge’s opinion of Marte.
Does anybody have the magical MLB.tv 1.2M?
If you need me, I'll be senselessly rooting for Sizemore 40/40 for the remainder of 2008.
I’ve got the 400k, but I’d like to see the 1.2M. My internet connection sucks but I need to figure out what I’m going to do when I get my sweet new TV. MLB.tv will not even let me preview a higher resolution.
Would you mind sneakin’ me your creds for a minute? I promise not to steal (much) money from your linked accounts that may or may not have a similar/same password combination. If no go, that’s cool too.
If you need me, I'll be senselessly rooting for Sizemore 40/40 for the remainder of 2008.
I got a nice little bonus from MLB. I canceled the service because I needed the money for other useless crap, so they sent me an email offering the rest of the season for free if I took a survey on their website. I like free.
Since it is a day game, is anyone drinking yet?

Anyone think that on Sept 1, Marte becomes a guy who never plays bc of a 3B callup?
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
If so, at least he will be able to fill the role with some experience. Someone will need to play dominoes with Dellucci after Vic, Pronk and Barfield come back.

Since you asked RD, here you go:
Wedge Tribe squads Mar-May : Aug-Oct (regular season only)
2003 21-32 : 23-31
2004 22-26 : 27-31
2005 25-25 : 38-18
2006 26-26 : 33-25
2007 33-19 : 36-20
2008 25-30 : 11-7
Totals 152-158 : 168-132
Only one good start and three good finishes
DO you think part of the reason is that Shapiro loads the team full of crap players in the offseason and Wedge has to keep playing them until they get DFA’d or benched?
I’m listening to the Mozart Requiem Mass…seems appropriate when these Royals hitters face Cliff.

The amazing thing about Cliff Lee this year is that hitters aren’t battling him. I’m so used to watching CC and certain guys that could still get 8-9 pitch AB’s off of him and run his pitch count up. Cliff just breezes through innings with such efficiency, it’s almost .. boring?
Is anyone bothered by the fact that Grady’s avg is only like .037 better than Franklin’s?

read a plain dealer article talking about the return of the injured players. there was a reference to jhonny moving to 3B. Was that just idle speculation or do you think he may get a few innings there this season?

It’s nice that somebody else is letting our best player beat them for a change, as opposed to us letting the other team’s best player beat us.

I would have liked to see Cliff go the distance today and save our bullpen from the oncoming bloodbath awaiting us in Texas. Oh well.

I had the pleasure of watching the immortal Jason Davis start a baseball game in person last night
Let’s see.. 3.2 innings, 9 hits, 3 walks.. yep, sounds like Jason Davis.

This is Pittsburgh. We need warm bodies willing to work cheap until we can develop our own quailty players.

Speaking of the Davis game last nite, I read this morning that Jason Isringhausen’s career may be over for the Cardinals.
I suspect KRod would be a good fit in St Louis.
injury or more suck?
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
From SIs Truth&Rumors page:
All-time Cardinals saves leader Jason Isringhausen walked away from the club Tuesday with what is believed to be a career-threatening torn flexor muscle near his right elbow. Team medical supervisor Dr. George Paletta confirmed the finding to general manager John Mozeliak Tuesday night after reading the results from a magnetic resonance imaging of the elbow, according to sources familiar with the situation. The Brighton, Ill., native knew enough about his condition before leaving Busch Stadium early Tuesday afternoon to inform some club personnel, “I’m done.”

Are we far enough ahead that we might be able to throw Masa or Eddie Moo?

Cliff Lee
Amazing
If you need me, I'll be senselessly rooting for Sizemore 40/40 for the remainder of 2008.
If you’d told me at the beginning of the year that on August 21, Cliff Lee would be 18-2, CC Sabathia would have a 2.99 ERA, and Grady would be one homer short of 30/30, I would’ve figured we were leading the division by 10 games. Sigh.
Despite all of my best intentions, I have not, in fact, grown up to be a debaser.
22 wins in 36 games.
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
So if I told you in March that the Tribe would be only 2.5 games behind Detroit in mid-late august, you’d be really excited about the next month or so, wouldn’t you?
:sigh:
You know Selig? Ombudsman.
If I told you in March that the Indians would have a better run differential that the Detroit Tigers, you’d probably assume we were ahead of them in the standings, and would be excited about the next month.

…or if I told you that Pronk, Victor, Garko and Gutz would have a grand total of 21 homers combined…
If I told you in February that Casey Blake would be traded for 2 good prospects after his stellar 2007, you’d have partied in the streets.
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
if I had told you in February that the Indians wouldn’t make the playoffs this year, you would have been disappointed
I dunno man, I’m happy with how the year turned. Sounds crazy I know. But we weren’t that bad this year and we have so much more talent now than what we started the year with.
I think you are seeing a resurgance based on a couple of things: low expectations, playing some bad teams in a row (not TB or Anaheim), and the return of our hitting. Simply put, there are no expectations, so the team is relaxed. (plus we’ve got Sal Fasano in our corner).
I keep reminding myself that there is no way we can get back in contention. But after our performance of late, I think we can finish strong. We are playing the good teams tough and beating the bad teams…Say what you want, this team is playing with heart and grit. I think it would be pretty sweet to finish strong and end up second. I can dream.
"I think people should be allowed to do anything they want. We haven't tried that for a while. Maybe this time it'll work." -George Carlin
Grady has more RBI’s than runs scored. Sounds like a pretty bad indictment of the tribe’s 2-4 hitters. Has there ever been a leadoff hitter with more RBI’s than runs scored?
…and HERE COME THE INDIANS!!!!!!!!!!!!
