Instant replay starts Thursday
Link.
The Indians will apparently be able to use it starting with the home series against Seattle on Friday. I'm not sure how much we care, but it should be interesting to say the least.
Video will be collected at the office of Major League Baseball Advanced Media in New York. If the crew chief at a game decides replay needs to be checked, umpires will leave the field, technicians at MLBAM will show umpires the video and the crew chief will make the call.

It’s a close call. We might need instant replay.

“After reviewing the play, the ruling on the field stands. It is a home run.”
(cue touchdown signal)
I wonder if the umpires will receive a microphone to echo around the stadiums ;)

If we can institue a home run dance and a spiking of the bat, the transformation should be complete.

I’ll be the first to admit I don’t have a real grasp on the distinction.
But I have made comments in other threads prior to making this Fanpost. At least there’s that.

I like the idea of this, but I hate that MLB is introducing it right in the middle of a season. I suppose that’s par for the course, and I think we’re owed at least one Ben Francisco homer now if I recall correctly.
Despite all of my best intentions, I have not, in fact, grown up to be a debaser.

I disagree. It should be in place before the playoffs.
And anyway, the sooner it exists for home runs, the sooner it can prove itself, and be used for calls at the plate and on the bags.

Somewhere, right now, Wedge is bunting thinking that will increase win expectancy.
If you need me, I'll be senselessly rooting for Sizemore 40/40 for the remainder of 2008.

From this article I learned that Garko is the Tribe’s MLBPA rep. I didn’t know that. What are the prereq’s for that sort of thing? Graduating college? Writing a mlb.com postseason blog?

I assumed you have to be someone not in danger of getting sent down. Apparently that’s not the case.

Shapiro needs to give Marte some advice on taking rep status from Gark to increase his leverage on the team.
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.

Instant replay starts Thursday. Andy Marte, however, will probably be sitting in favor of Jamey Carroll.
