As per CastroTurf. He's starting the game, too!

I’m so excited about Santana. In BA’s latest hot sheet chat, John Manuel ranked Santana as the 2nd best prospect in our system (and he’s in the mix for the top spot), plus he said he’s probably in the top 5 of all catching prospects. His defense is still a little rough around the edges I believe, but this is just his 2nd year as a catcher, so even if he becomes just average defensively, his bat will be make up for that.
Speaking of Akron, Hodges is heating up after his slump, hitting over .400 in the last 10 games with 5 doubles and 5 homers … add another double tonight.
Nice line from Lofgren tonight: 14 batters faced, 9 runs, 9 earned, 6 hits, 4 walks, 2 wild pitches, one home run, versus 4 outs (all fly outs). Leapin’ lizards.

Hello Fiddlesticks,
My computer was on the fritz for a few days (overheating), so I was not able to check the Minors for a few days. Did Lofgren start in that game?
If so, the trend continues that his command seems to be much better coming out of the bullpen; for whatever reason, his command goes haywire when he starts.
While we’d like for him to be a good to even dominant starter, a solid to dominant reliever is better than an inconsistent and erratic starter, no matter how much potential he has.
Perhaps the Indians will give him another chance to start in 2009, but if he falters the first month, I’d seriously consider turning him into a reliever full-time and see if he thrives.
Just my 2 cents.

Anybody know why J.D. Martin was removed after 2 (hitless) innings? Sigh…

Thanks, Tox, but it turns out, according to Tony Lastoria, that the Aeros want to use him in the Eastern League playoffs on Thursday night, which means he’ll be going on short rest. So they’re trying to protect him. I was afraid he was hurt.

Hello obobcatu,
Not only that, but they gave up Jon Meloan too, who has thrived as a very dominant reliever – hopefully, it will work out very well for us. :-)
Though, to Blake’s credit, he has played very well for them to this point (7 HRs so far in his 5-6 week stint in the NL), but I agree that it seems like a pretty high price to pay. As mentioned above, hopefully both Santana and Meloan work out very well for us.
Just my 2 cents.
