TONIGHT ONLY ... LGT SUMMIT @ CAMDEN YARDS
I got free of my work obligations and am headed down to Baltimore to catch the game with mauichuck and DrErikBrady. Anyone else going, call or text me, and we'll all meet up for a beer or something. (See end of yesterday's game thread.)

I’m so jealous. I could have been the Swedish chef.

I think the established word was that Dr Erik and I made up the two above. Maybe for tonight, it’ll be Jay and Chuck.
I wish I could be there tonight. I enjoyed the last time I took part in one of these.
It was definitely fun again, Jay sat with me and my family for most of the game and then went over to sit with Chuck for the last inning or so. I could not believe I was watching Wedge pull Marte in the 9th after going 2-2 with a BB, and an RBI with Barfield on deck and only one out for Jhonny. My almost 4 year old was pretty exhausted by 10:30 or so when we got home, but all told we all had fun.

Speaking of dogs, for those of you that have been to Camden Yards and know about the hot dog race on the jumbotron (ketchup vs. mustard vs. relish), last night’s race went to the mustard, pleasing my almost 4 year old greatly.

STATLER: That chef should go back to doing what he did before he was cook?
WALDORF: What did he do before he was a cook?
STATLER: NOTHING! Oh-ho-ho-ho-ho!

LIke you couldn’t have come late. Pathetic. Last year, I had a job interview on the last day of the series and Baltimore. The game had already started when I got out of the interview. Do you think that stopped me from going home, changing into my Pronk jersey, and arriving late to sit with Jay and Jason from the 3rd inning on? Nope. You need to suck it up Phil.

Actually the timing of it had nothing to do with it. I have no car and the MARC doesn’t go back into DC after rush hour :-(

Right on Chuck! Phil, you could’ve stayed at my place in Columbia and I would’ve gotten you back to the Greenbelt station this AM. You just have to think about what’s possible man.

Chuck, you called me last week and said you weren’t gonna be able to make it, and I didn’t know anyone else was going. I missed this post because I skipped out of work early, whoops. And actually, I don’t have anyone else’s phone/e-mail. Appreciate the offer, though, Doc. No biggie, we’ll get something together soon enough!
Anyone interested in Nats/Fish in a couple of weeks? I mean, not that anyone has any rooting interest, but for baseball’s sake?

Sorry if I let you down kid, but as of ten days ago I was fully employed by the Princeton company. I was the center of the universe in early September and then I landed this gig back in Maui about a week ago. So my give-a-shit meter went to zero shortly after I got the offer back home. Suffice it to say – whoppeeeee! I’m headed to the ballpark.
Next time – if there is a next time – you’ll be the first LGTer I call. Promise.

Oh no, no worries at all. I think we just got mixed up. It’s all good!

Old Guy #1: The show is halfway over
Old Guy #2: Well then, I must be halfway through my nap….
HAHAHAHAHAHA!
It’s Statler and Waldorf. I only know because that’s what the people at work call me and my roommate.

Yeah I went to the game with an old – he’s almost my age – friend from college. He didn’t get there until the fourth inning. I got there in time for batting practice. On the way in I met a whole bunch of folks with Indians gear on and it turned out that one of them was Ashley something – Zack Jackson’s significant other. And let me get this outta the way quick. Yep, she was one smokin’ hot babe! The best looking woman I’ve seen in at least three months. She’s from Lima Ohio – I got the impressiion that she met Zack in HS but I see he’s from Latrobe PA so maybe I got that wrong. Anyway we chatted briefly and she said that Zack’s really excited about joining the Tribe and getting a shot at the show. She was astute enough to know – swoon, beauty plus baseball brains! – that having five left-hand starters was pretty strange. She also mentioned that Cliff Lee – the greatest Indians left-hander ever – was a real nice guy but, “he’s got a real dark side too”. Magic!
I sat eight rows behind the Indians dugout with a coupla oncologists, surrounded – if you can use the term surrounded when 50% of the seats are empty – by doctors and lawyers and the occasional fan that slipped by the maximum security ushers guarding the entrance to the baseball Nirvana that is the Camden Yards box seats. Very boring bunch. Any way you could just about reach out and smack Jamie Carroll from these seats if you were so inclined.
A coupla quick observations: Well we got one version of the infield of the future: Aubrey at first, Barfield at second, Asdrubal at SS and Marte at third. They played like the ‘72 Indians infield. No-hit and no-field. Aubrey dropped a liner that he shouldda had for an out, Asdrubal booted a routine grounder for an error and an unearned – I don’t give a damn, they still count – run. Barfield looked like he was over-matched at the plate. Marte looked like the Greg Nettles of this group as he got two hits – one a gift from the baseball gods – and a walk. But – but – then got pinch hit for in the what? – I’d lost interest by then – seventh maybe? by Shoppach. Given the bi-modal nature of a Shoppach at bat, we got the bad one this time – a K. Choo’s got a cannon out in right. He almost over threw a peg to third from about 280 feet away. One more: Hafner looked as tight as Dick’s hat band. He was squeezin’ the bat so hard I think I saw rosin comin’ outta the handle.
To add to the flash-back nature of the game – the Indians got their clock cleaned by the Orioles in a mostly empty ballpark. Camden Yards had the aura of a scaled down version of ol’ Cleveland Municipal. I couldda had my very own beer vendor that night. We had that fakokta Orioles mascot do the O-R-I-O-L-E chant on top of the dugout, but other than that there was few signs of life among the Baltimore faithful. If it wasn’t for my friends and Jay and Doc Brady it wouldda been a very boring evening.
Jay and I rode back to Philly together and in the two hour ride we solved the Mid-East crisis, perfected cold fusion, and design the perfect Pastrami sandwich. You’re welcome.
Despite 8 and a half innings of boring baseball I still had a great time! Hope to do it one more time before the season’s over!

Regarding the people sitting around you, you forgot the drunk guy who was organizing people to yell at Skinner to get back in the box. You see, he was standing outside of the coaches box and he was getting the people around him to join in yelling at Skinner to get back into the box. It was absolutely hysterical, except that it was annoying and not at all funny.

Forgot to add: how did I know that some of the fans next to us were doctors? Easy, three of them actually showed up to the game in their scrubs! My doctor buddies were wonderin’ who the hell was taking care of the patients.

I can’t believe you waited until after the Mid-East/cold fusion crap before addressing the sandwich issue.
Steel Nick
You get the stupid crap out of the way quickly in order to savor the good stuff. Sort of like how when I was a kid, I always ate the crappy cereal bits in my Lucky Charms first so I could finish with the disgustingly satisfying chemical-laden marshmallow bits. My sister, who always ate the marshmallows first, ended slightly further from Nirvana than I did.
The real reason CC was traded was to protect Sam McDowell’s lead in wins by a LH starter. Lee is 47 wins away, so look out. As an aside, did you know that Andy Marte ranks 16th in career HR among Indians playing more than half their games at 3B? Maybe Wedge is just protecting Aaron Boone.
Balls. I was at the game but didn’t see this until this morning. I impressed my friends (not Tribe fans) by predicting Marte getting pulled in the 9th.
“But he’s 2 for 2 with a walk!”
“Doesn’t matter. Just watch.”
Agreed on Choo’s arm looking impressive. I think he had a guy out at the plate until Vic lost the ball.
Are some errors from Asdrubal at SS to be expected initially? I was disappointed by the fielding but unsure how hard it is to shift over.

Me: “Look at that Jay, Wedge is actually going to let Marte hit in the 9th.”
Jay: “Just because he’s in the on deck circle doesn’t mean he’s going to get to hit.”
Chuck: “True dat. True dat.”

It’s gone past sad and into comical. Even my daily fantasy baseball (drink) update on Marte critisizes Wedge’s handling of poor Marte:
“Andy Marte – CLE – 3B September 12
Andy Marte went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a walk Thursday before being removed for a pinch-hitter.
Not to defend Marte’s major league performance to date, but the Indians sure don’t seem to be trying to build his confidence at all. After he had two hits, including an RBI double, off a right-hander on Tuesday, manager Eric Wedge opted to play Jamey Carroll over him against a lousy lefty on Wednesday (this even though he’s hitting .278/.361/.444 in 54 at-bats versus southpaws). Back in the lineup against a right-hander tonight, he reached in all three plate appearances, yet Wedge decided to hit for him anyway against a Triple-A pitcher in the ninth. If the Indians were a contender or even if they were facing a contender, then, yeah, maybe having Jhonny Peralta hit for him would have been a good idea (actually, having Peralta start the game would have been a good idea). But what is so wrong with giving the kid a chance in a meaningless September game?”
