I’m sure someone will jump on me for this, but more often than not, watching Jhonny hit is a generally unpleasant experience. Sure, he’s had some solid stretches, but his default seems to be chasing everything that moves…. I know you can’t perfectly predict what will be out of the strike zone, and every once in a while it pays off to go get something, but for me, lack of selectivity is maybe the most irritating thing to watch in a hitter.
you’re ready to declare him better than sowers after two starts? I seem to remember Sowers looking pretty good early on…

I don’t mean to sour his present performance (no pun intended — for once), by the way, I just don’t think it’s fair to Sowers to call Lewis “legit” this early

Looks like the only question about Lewis is whether he’s #1 or #2 in our rotation next year.

ugh. After seeing those mements, seeing him disintegrate before your eyes is like watching freshman college girls pound beers and pizza….you know it’s cool at the time but you’re setting up for a hard fall.

Our house lost power for about 24 hours, but not trees uprooted thankfully.
Plus, no school today or tomorrow so two days off teaching!

“Yost is Toast” … Yahoo sports, you so funny.
Anyone notice C. Blake is benched in favor of Nomaahhh?
only a matter of time before he gets naked pictures of torre’s wife too, or whatever magic he had over wedge that got him in the lineup every day.

YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN SO THRILLED IN MAY.
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
i lol’d.

I’d comment on that inning, but you all know what I would say.

Did you see that stupid play by DeSean Jackson? I don’t know if the ball cross the plan of the goal line.

Dallas should get the ball. I don’t know how you’d rule that, though. Where would they get it at? The 1? The 20?

THat was magnificently boneheaded. I had flashbacks of Rudd throwing his helmet.

I’m assuming that the White Sox will fall fast in the post season considering their recent spate of injuries, so I guess I’d rather see them make it, but I may change my reasoning to accommodate the last series of the year.

Just a thought: Indians infield tonight of Marte, Peralta, Cabrera and Aubrey. They looked very sharp defensively. Is it totally implausible to see that (with Aubrey/Martinez as a platoon) as next year’s infield?
I cannot envision any scenario where Aubrey’s bat can carry him at first, even in a platoon. He only hit RH ok (.849) in the minors.
I’m pretty positive Michael Aubrey is not a major leaguer.
The biggest and most important question, coming down the stretch, is how everyone (besides Wedgie) feel about Marte.

i wish i didn’t, but I agree. Aubrey’s career was wrecked before it began because of injuries. I don’t see anyway to undo that.
Aubrey presents one of the all time great minor league conundrums: how to feel about the highly touted guy who gets hurt and then, once healthy, can’t perform.
To put another way, isn’t it just as viable to say: “Aubrey’s career was wrecked before it began because of his inability to hit.” I mean, this guy has never had a great age appropriate year and he’s got nearly 1300 minor league at bats.
On top of that, he’s a college kid, joining the Indians at 21 and not really losing ABs till he was 23. He lost years of his career but I’m not sure how to evaluate how important they were developmentally.
well, if there any way to keep him rostered, I hope we do. potentially a nice hitter for average….could improve his power #s some after a healthy season.
needs ABs……
Your answer makes more sense for Martay than for Aubray.

I initially read it in my head for Marte, having forgotten which part of the thread this was, and it made sense.
You don’t think Aubrey has power potential?
What tipped you off? The .479 minor league slugging? The .418 slugging in Buffalo? The 48 career homeruns?
Thats the one peice that would make me feel reasonably more interested in Marte….if some of that minor league power potential showed up ,He’s hit .250 over the last two months…..not good, but completely without a positive trend. The lack of slug% is a little scary, though.

Lewis first Indians pitcher since 1969 to go scoreless through first 14. Needed another bright spot with Carmona and Sowers issues. I saw Lewis last week in B-More. Rare to see that poise in a young pitcher. Good to see he handled having men on base today.
Strangely enough, Lewis is not the only pitcher working on a scoreless debut streak right now. James Parr has had two straight 6 inning scoreless starts for the Braves (and also has a fastball that tops out in the upper 80s). If either makes it through another start, they’ll become only the second pitcher since 1956 to begin their career with three scoreless starts. I’m not sure the other one should even count – Jorge Campillo pitched a scoreless first inning in 2005, was pulled for the second, had TJ surgery, and then didn’t start again until 2008, whereupon he threw another 10 scoreless innings over his next 2 starts.
Lewis’s minor league numbers suggest he has the potential to be the real deal. I imagine the challenge for Lewis will be once he starts facing competition the second time around. I would think that for a guy who throws lots of strikes and doesn’t have overpowering stuff, once that scouting report gets around, he’ll need to continue to find a way to keep opposing hitters off balance if he wants to have sustained success.
