I don’t think it really deserves a fanshot .. but interesting, nonetheless.
Lee, who turns 22 on October 21, hails from Taiwan and is one of the top amateur college prospects from the island nation. He was a member of the 2008 Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) Olympic Team that competed in Beijing, China and recorded an ERA of 2.00 in 2 Olympic outings (9.0IP, 6H, 2R/ER, 2BB, 11K). His best outing of the Olympics came against the Cuban national team, tossing 6.2 innings in a starting role (3H, 1R/ER, 7K). He also appeared in relief vs. the United States (2.1IP, 3H, 1R/ER, 0BB, 4K). Lee was one of just 3 amateurs on the Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) Olympic Team.

Wow, that’s only marginally taller than Jamey Carroll!

I will say that it is infinitely more likely that Jamey Carroll starts the year as the starting 3B than Peralta.

Hmm. That’s sort of an odd connection, as Lee was terrible and Peralta is awesome. Not that it’s incorrect, just counterintuitive.
If we’re thinking of moving JP to 3B I think we should trade him to someone who wants a SS. I don’t want a decent 3B while giving up an awesome SS.

In the “missed opportunities” file, Chicago is only 6-7 for September.. but Minnesota is 5-8. Even playing .500 ball would put them in first place.

I look at this year as a blessing in disguise. Those two teams will not be improving next year and our down year we were able to improve our system considerably.
By comparison, you look at Detroit and Seattle … they had just as many expectations with poor results and did nothing about it.

No kidding. I’d actually say Detroit’s year has been more disappointing than ours. I realize we made it to the ALCS last year & they missed the playoffs, but with all the trades & money they spent in the offseason and all the prognostications of 1000 runs, fourth place can’t feel too good. Especially since, unlike us, they’ve actually been pretty healthy this year.

Boof Bonser (born John Paul Bonser on October 14, 1981 in St. Petersburg, Florida) is a right-handed reliever for the Minnesota Twins. He legally changed his name to Boof after the 2001 season. MLB.com listed Boof as the best current nickname in baseball

Here are my things with the buckle:
1-They don’t carry my primary brands (NBs, Nikes).
2-They present shoes so poorly. I don’t know why they insist on having those arty little pictures with two views crammed in. It’s not a good way to look at sneakers, which often have little things going on with the uppers, insteps, etc.
If I could find some place that had the full color palette for NB 574s I’d be happy but for whatever reason they seem to give every store one non-normal color combo.

I see we’re officially giving up on the game by putting Mastny in.

I’m not so sure Wedge isn’t reading this thread, and doesn’t just hate us all. especially you.
by Logodaedalus on Sep 16, 2008 11:12 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Did i hear correctly that the FO feels that Meloan’s innings pitched is too high so he needs to be strictly limited?
by PatBordersHelmet on Sep 16, 2008 11:13 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
they have to keep a limit on Meloan’s inning pitched
by Logodaedalus on Sep 16, 2008 11:14 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
To practically shut down. One or two batters type stuff.
by PatBordersHelmet on Sep 16, 2008 11:15 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
You got to warm him up first. Plus, Wedge doesn’t seem to like the one-batter matchups.
by odradek on Sep 17, 2008 12:36 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
oh, is that true? at least that would make this a little less utterly baffling

I wonder what the logistics are of pinch hitting with a pitcher who’s in the bullpen. How does he get in?

unless your thing was to only see even-numbered wins….
by Logodaedalus on Sep 16, 2008 11:46 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I only watch wins that are Pillai primes.
by FredOx on Sep 16, 2008 11:52 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
wow, so if Cliff wins tomorrow it will be the first win you’ve seen in a long time, huh?
by Logodaedalus on Sep 17, 2008 12:05 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Barry Zito was the last one to get there, in 2002. Only one pitcher has ever reached the third Pillai prime, Charley Radbourn for the Providence Grays in 1884.

Yeah but he lost at least three times as many games as Cliff. That’s gotta count for something.

all those blown saves were either at home or just tied the game?
by Logodaedalus on Sep 16, 2008 11:39 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
All 7 have been on the road. Four tied the game, one was in the bottom of the 8th and one was single-HBP-E1. The latter qualifies as a walk-off, I guess.
by FredOx on Sep 16, 2008 11:49 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I guess it was a walk-off, but it wasn’t “allowed”?
by Logodaedalus on Sep 17, 2008 12:10 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I watched that game. There was a sac bunt back to Nathan and he threw to third to get the lead runner and it went past 3B down the line. Two runs scored and the Twins lost.
by odradek on Sep 17, 2008 12:40 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
oh, wait, E1 is the pitcher. So he did allow it.

yup, some terrible pitching by ZJ (and slightly less prolonged terribleness by Rincon and Betancourt), and some rare late game clutch hitting by Grady and Victor
