I am at work. As I punishment to my boss, I plan on listening to the entire game while goofing off on the internet.
Probably should have gone to the park tonight, but going twice in a weekend seems like overkill. I’ll regret this in December.
My local Indian affiliate is broadcasting high school football … I am considering sitting out in my car so I can pick up WTAM.
Some elderly gentleman in a band consisting of an accordion, a trumpet, and some other instrument. They were shown playing by one of the escalators in the park.
ummmmm news to me.
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
Underwood’s phrasing was “since Progressive Field opened,” and if they’re calling that this year then I’m all sorts of angry.
I’ve seen them up there before this year. They are typically either by the escalators by the team shop or on the mezzanine level when I’ve been there.
by Fundamentals on Sep 19, 2008 8:08 PM EDT up reply actions
Underwood says that player development contracts can only be 2 or 4 year deals, for those who were wondering if 4 years seemed short.
We should’ve done a deal where multiple teams are involved and whoever makes the playoffs has to give us the PLTBN. Or something.
now you’re talkin’. i’m not thrilled by this trade stipulation, though i guess it depends on if the list of players that’s been leaked is the low-end (i.e. the guys we’d get to choose from if the brewers miss the playoffs) and we haven’t been leaked the list of guys that’d be on the list if they make the playoffs. and, yes, i know i’m being optimistic in assuming that irregardless of the brewers’ playoff fate that we’ll be selecting from a list, not being told who we’re getting …
Yeah I would say that’s wildly unrealistic. Any list that goes over the top of Brantley would seem like a huge mistake for Milwaukee. There are only a handful of guys clearly a cut above him and I don’t think Melvin was dumb enough to put them on the table.
If Lucroy is the PTBNL, where do we slot all these catchers next year?
by millionairesrow on Sep 19, 2008 8:02 PM EDT up reply actions
well, unrealistic, yes, but still possible. it would fit with the timing of the trade, etc.
in any case, the publicity of the PTBNL will make this trade something that we’ll be able to talk about for years – comparing the merits of different guys on the list, thinking of the coulda-beens if milwaukee misses out on the playoffs, etc.
Anyone else having issues with mlb.tv? Its cut the top off my video

That’s happened to me ever since I upgraded to Firefox 3. It’s only in the default window mode though — if I go to full-screen it’s fine. I have no idea why, nor have I made much effort to find out, since I usually watch in full screen anyway.

It was a clip from Spring Training, a few years ago, Brett tells this 5 minute story to some player about how he had…uh…s**t his pants the night before, it was pretty hilariuos

I was laughing uncontrollably of the replays of Fausto punching Sheff 18 times on the top of the head
That reminded me of Nolan Ryan punching Robin Ventura. Not as good, of course, but similar.

If Fausto is suspended for the rest of the year… it was totally worth it.
by Fundamentals on Sep 19, 2008 8:54 PM EDT up reply actions
fine with me considering the reason – unless Fausto is injured.
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
Fausto did not take the worse part of that. Fausto is fine, I’d imagine.

Carmona hits Sheffield on the elbow with a 90+ MPH fastball and Sheffield is not happy about it. He stares at Carmona the entire walk to first. On the next pitch, Carmona throws over to first which really don’t sit well with Sheff. Sheffield tells him “just thrown the ball to the ****** plate” and whatever Carmona said next pushed Sheffield over the edge. Sheffield charges at Carmona and then all hell breaks loose. Both benches clear and when all is said and done, Sheffield looks like he took the worst of it. More info on who’s been ejected coming soon.
Oh…oh wow. I hope we DVR’d this.

In Cliff we trust.
I had it mute the TV there for minute, what’s the final Indians ejection count?

I have Fausto on points in the first round. Underpants definitely has no future on Friday Night Fights.
That fight had more actual punches being thrown than your typical baseball grabfest

Is it somehow wrong that Fausto is now my favorite Indian, by far? I just ordered a jersey.

ha,no. he became mine in the ALDS when we were chanting “Let’s Go Fausto”

took out Ordonez, I believe.

Ordonez was holding Victor back, Vic wasn’t going at Ordonez

Ordonez and a few others were struggling to hold him back, I think he was going after Sheffield

The Brewers lost the extra-game playoff with the Mets home-field advantage coin flip. Or whatever it’s called.
okay, I know what it is but…. they did that already?

Well. It looks like I picked a good day to come home to Ohio and watch the game.

I’m going to go out on a limb and declare that Choo is our best corner outfielder since Juan Gonzalez.
I think I really mean that, too.
Marty Cordova had a good few months. And Jody Gerut.

by Buckeye Brad on Sep 19, 2008 9:34 PM EDT up reply actions
Since 2001, here’s been the everyday corner outfielders:
2002: Russell Branyan, Matt Lawton
2003: Jody Gerut, Matt Lawton
2004: Jody Gerut, Matt Lawton
2005: Casey Blake, Coco Crisp
2006: Casey Blake, Jason Michaels
2007: Jason Michaels, Trot Nixon
2008: Franklin Gutierrez, Ben Francisco
Yech.
The best ones have been Gerut’s rookie season, Crisp in 2005 and Blake in 2006, but none of them would be worth mentioning outside of their stellar defense. None of them have slugged 500 or had an OPS of 850.
In 2001, Marty Cordova slugged .506 and had an OPS of .850. It’s pretty sad that he’s probably the best of the bunch.

I just have this terrible feeling that we’re being teased here…when’s the earliest he’ll have to leave for Korea? One more year?
by supermarioelia on Sep 19, 2008 9:37 PM EDT up reply actions
I think 2010 would be his last season. He can avoid it by becoming an American citizen. Maybe the threat of that would make his country concede his responisibility.
Has there been any discussion of Choo getting amnesty if he/S.Korea does well in the upcoming WBC?

Didn’t the rest of the Koreans get exemption from their success at the Asian Games?

Yeah, according to Byung-Hyun Kim’s MLB bio, it was the Asin games perfirmance that earned him the exemption

“his work in the Asian Games earned him the opportunity to sign a baseball contract, receiving a deferment from any military commitment to the Korean government.”

Wow, I miss all this wild fun.
One of my favorite things about the fight, after watching the video, is seeing Marte on the outside of the pileup, dodging around looking for a way in. He’s not allowed in any of the fun.

“This is the third time,” Sheffield said, though it wasn’t immediately apparent what the third might be. “Like I said, three strikes, you’re out. And if there’s a fourth, it gets more violent, trust me.”
You mean like the fourth time Carmona will literally put a crack in your skull? And the fifth time he puts your ass past your shoulders?
HUGE correction for me to make about that OPS stat I threw out there last night. Somehow I overlooked anyone with an OPS over 1.000.
Here are the MLB OPS leaders for everyone over 320 PA:
Pujols
Jones
Manny
Milton
Berkman
A-Rod
Quentin
Teixera
SHIN SOO CHOO
I’ll still take 9th. Sorry to get everyone excited.
I think the fight was pretty lame. I’m glad it dawned on Fausto that he was punching with his pitching hand. What’s the news here? Sheffield’s a punk? Vic stands up for his batterymate? Eh. For my money, nothing this season beats Dioner Navarro throwing Coco Crisp to the ground mid-charge.

… And my Fausto Road Alternate is in the mail. The little rabbit punches make it worth every penny.
I'll regress to my career numbers if you do too!
How long do we control him? (This, of course, should be the foremost inquiry whenever anyone considers a jersey purchase.)
