I just plain feel bad for Willis.
But then again, he gets Garko instead of Hafner, so he’s lucky (oh, wait…).
I'll regress to my career numbers if you do too!
Just stopping in for a minute then I gotta go. Over/under on how many innings SLEW goes without giving up a run, today? I’m going with 6.

I suck. I’m signing off, but I expect us to be above .500 the next time I log on.

Lewis sucks how can he give up his first run after 15 scorless. Only kidding but I think we have something with this guy.

someone want to give me a summary of the scoring so I don’t have to open Gameday and slow down everything on my computer?
Garko triple? Again I say, inconceivable!
Was there a fielding flub or something that led to that?
by Logodaedalus on Sep 21, 2008 1:56 PM EDT up reply actions
Willis was wild – gave up acoupla walks and then – and then – my boy Garko hit a bases loaded triple! A Triple – from Garko – can you imagine?!
Resident LGT beer kinda sewer
I cannot believe I missed a Garko triple! That’s like missing a solar eclipse or something.

Ordonez was exceptionally slow in getting to the ball. He really didn’t move until the ball was already on the ground in the gap. The throw, then, was bad as well.

Does anyone else find it funny that the Brewers spent all that money on CC and now they may not even make the playoffs while Cleveland gets Jackson and LaPorta?
by ClevelandCrazy29 on Sep 21, 2008 1:57 PM EDT reply actions
I’d find it funnier if it didn’t affect our LNPTB
by Logodaedalus on Sep 21, 2008 1:59 PM EDT up reply actions
Has anybody outside Hoynes confirmed this yet? I’m still skeptical, even more so since this was Hoynes’ 14th version of the trade story.
by Fundamentals on Sep 21, 2008 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions 1 recs
More like LaPorta and whoever the PTBNL is. Jackson was just a throw-in. But, yeah, if the Brewers don’t make the playoffs then this trade looks bad for them.

It wasn’t a lot of money – considering. And no, I personnally don’t find it at all unusual that they’re gonna be home during the play-offs. That’ll teach ’em to rely on CC.
Resident LGT beer kinda sewer
Yeah, it was all CC’s fault the Brewers are gonna miss the playoffs. He really sucked for them.

All I’m sayin’ is the Brewers are gonna be right where the Indians are in October – at home watching the play-offs on TV. CC or no CC.
Resident LGT beer kinda sewer
Except that you seem to be blaming CC for the Brewer’s failures. It’s not his fault; he pitched fantastic for them. There are 24 other players on that team.

All I’m saying is that were better off with the players we got from the Brewers than we were keeping CC. Personnally, I’m glad he’s gone.
Resident LGT beer kinda sewer
Oh, I certainly agree with that first sentence 100%. That’s not what you were saying, though.

I’m saying that each man on the roster has a job to do. CC’s is to be the Ace, the guy you rely on when the shits the thickest. He’s just OK in that role. I think that Cliff Lee’s gonna be better.
Resident LGT beer kinda sewer
In 15 starts with Milwaukee, CC is 9-2 with a 1.81 ERA, 110K’s and only 20 BB. If that isn’t good enough for an “ace”, your standards are waaaay too high.

CC would have screwed the brewers in the playoffs just like he did the indians. all we needed was one good outing and we would have won the pennant. ONE FRICKEN GOOD OUTING FOR THE CY YOUNG WINNER.

It has been odd to watch the D-Train go from a threat to throw a no-no to a problem on the mound because they don’t know how many runs he will give up.
by ClevelandCrazy29 on Sep 21, 2008 2:06 PM EDT reply actions
I hope he doesn’t have a resurgence like Cliff Lee though.

I don’t know what im more worried about the fact that lewis has bases loaded or that he is over 60 pitches already and it’s only the 3rd.

CHW are winning it could be elimination day for the tribe.
by ClevelandCrazy29 on Sep 21, 2008 2:19 PM EDT reply actions
already mathematically eliminated due to Chicago and Minnesota having games against each other left. Can’t both lose every remaining game
by Logodaedalus on Sep 21, 2008 2:22 PM EDT up reply actions
if minnesota sweeps that series than losses the rest of their games cleveland would be in it. it doesn’t matter anyway it would take a miracle.
by ClevelandCrazy29 on Sep 21, 2008 2:36 PM EDT up reply actions
that would give the Twins 86 wins, which the Indians can’t match, with only 8 games left

Poor guy. Hammy keeps comparing him to Ankiel and Blass. Always a shame.
I'll regress to my career numbers if you do too!
Maybe, yeah, especially in that Ankiel’s yips came totally out the blue—one inning he was fine, next inning he had 5 wild pitches.
Seems, although I don’t have stats, that Dontrelle’s downfall has been more gradual. And the injury complicates it, since it’s possible it’s a mechanical thing.
I'll regress to my career numbers if you do too!
The Tigers should trade some more prospects for another D-Train. Preferably signing him to at least a 5 year contract
Nice move giving away the Indians-Yankees Monday game free – it will make sure a lot of Indians fans attend.
It is a nice touch, a departure from the “you can get a deal on any game except the games you actually want to see” attitude of years past.

Gameday’s just lost its mind. It’s got Granderson with six called strikes. What’s goin’ on?
Resident LGT beer kinda sewer
You know, if it had to be a losing season, this is the kind I prefer. This team was out of it early and unequivocally, we got maximum return on our expendable talent, and some young guys showed up to play in the second half. Much better than a near-miss late swoon.

Tough call. Would you rather get her prom-dress off and get thrown out at home or just get shut-out from the getgo?

Option A. It gave us time to throw on a pair of jeans and get a few numbers before the night was over.

If you were forced to watch the Tigers’ broadcast yesterday (not sure if this was already discussed), the Tiger broadcast team said “Gary has been playing long enough to know when he’s getting thrown at.”
Verlander then proceeded to hit Jamie Carroll with a 97mph fastball in the upper shoulder, and they quickly reference the fact that Verlander just hit his 14th batter in 195 innings. Of course, no mention is made of Carmona’s 8 hit batters in 115 innings. Or his obscene 69 walks.
I think the Indians should throw at the Tiger broadcast team just to counteract the stupidity of the booth.

Verlander has hit 40 batters in his career, according to B-Ref. 14 of them have been Indians.

8 thoughts and impressions from today’s game:
1. Great home finale. I always love beating up on the Tigers.
2. The Sheffield boo-fests were a hoot.
3. D-Train was in expected form. Hee.
4. It looks like my cat could play right field better than Magglio Ordonez currently does.
5. Before the game started, I picked up a Grady jersey at long last at 25% off. Pretty damn cool deal, I thought. Then, about halfway through the game, I saw a blurb on the scoreboard announcing “HAMMY TAKES OVER TEAM SHOP! SAY ‘BALLGAME’ AND GET 25% OFF YOUR PURCHASE!” If this means “an additional 25% off on top of what the team shop was already advertising,” please don’t tell me, because I probably don’t want to know.
6. Progressive Field is a creepy concrete maze kinda like an enemy fortress from a James Bond movie once you get into those “authorized personnel only” areas.
7. While moving through a large area in the maze that looks and smells like your local car repair shop, we came across these large semi-transparent plastic containers. My brother thinks they were filled with antifreeze, brake fluid and/or Windex, but it sure looked like sno-cone coloring to me, and if so, it appears to be flammable. Egad.
8. “Running the bases” sounds like a ton of fun, and it probably is. Being caught in a 300 person traffic jam on the base paths and then having to walk around every base (since half of the kids were posing for pictures whilst standing on them) … well, the view from around home plate was certainly interesting.

Back from the game. A few thoughts before I read the thread.
1. I love the D-Train.
2. Maggs had the worst day in right field that I have ever seen in person.
3. CHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
4. I got me a Fausto bobblehead, which originally was only given to kids 14-under. Ka-ching.
5. I can’t believe that people left before the game was over. For shame.
4. I got me a Fausto bobblehead, which originally was only given to kids 14-under. Ka-ching.
Lucky. Me and what seems like everybody I saw today got the “Grady In His Car” bobblehead. Kinda lame, really.
A friend of mine managed to score me a glossy reproduction of the PD front page proclaiming the Tribe as world champions in ’48. I actually liked that freebie better than the bobblehead. :)
