"In my exit meeting with Mark Shapiro and Eric Wedge, they told me they're trying to find another infielder," Peralta said as he cleaned out his locker Monday morning at Progressive Field. "They don't know if it's going to be a second baseman or a third baseman."
If it's a second baseman, Asdrubal Cabrera is expected to move to short with Peralta moving to third.
"When I start playing winter ball, I'm going to call Mark to see where I should play," Peralta said.

I would think if the Indians somehow got Uggla, he would move to third not Jhon-Jhon.

Don’t the people at CVS wonder why you need so much cold medicine every week?

Telling kids in school not to make crystal meth only leads to kids getting their faces boiled off by mustard gas. We should be telling kids if they’re going to make crystel meth, wear proper protection.

If you’re dumb enough to make your own meth, you’re dumb enough to boil off your own face.
Unintended consequences can be a blessing.
Pinch-hitting Carroll for Marte at this point in the season is inexcusable. I’ve had it with Wedge. He’s a younger, paler Dusty Baker.
Much to the chagrin of our favorite Law Student in Toledo.

Not sure if “chagrined” is the word, Paul. “Bemused,” maybe. I’m somewhat of the opinion that 2008 is about the best we can expect from Jhonny — if we were going to sell high, I tend to think this would be the time. On the other hand, we’ve got fewer infielders than I once thought we would. And even if we were selling high, that doesn’t necessarily mean we’d be able to replace his production and value for the next few years.

I think Peralta will be even better next year. He advanced a lot at pitch selection, and laid off a lot more outside breaking stuff. He forced pitchers to throw him more fastballs, which he used to show a slight improvement in line drives. Last year pitchers avoided throwing him fastballs. This year, even though his walks were down, he was better. And, mind you, if we were to sell high, perhaps we’re a couple of years late.
Not so sure about all this talk about “selling high,” though. For anybody.
I think he has a chance to consolidate his new skills and knowledge into more consistently good results next season, but I wouldn’t put any money on it.
I hate it day to day, even week to week, but it starts to mean something worth discussing once you get up to dealing in blocks of around 50 PA. Anyway, I’m not even really talking about consistent numbers, I’m talking about being just as fundamentally sound in every part of a season, with breaks for breakdowns in approach being very few and very brief. Jhonny had a very nice season, but you couldn’t quite say that about him. Next year, maybe we’ll be able to.
Not intended as a dig. Thought I covered that with the “non-replaceable production and value” bit. He’s great.

I am very pleased by this. I really hope they find the best offensive player of the available 2B and 3B. To me, this is the best way to maximize Peralta’s and Cabrera’s value: you can go for either position/flexibility
That said, the focus should be offense and if that is the case, the 3B market should be much more to our liking.
yeah, I was speaking of both. I just happen to be in the camp that believes Casey Blake would fit our needs perfectly, so the FA list doesn’t look too bad at 3B. Also Hank Blalock could be interesting if the Rangers don’t pick up his option (did they do that already?) and Joe Crede could turn out to be an interesting 1 or 2 year Millwood-type deal.
From Wedge, via the PD:
“It’s not working off of Jhonny. It’s working off of what’s available and what’s the best fit for us. At some point, I do feel Jhonny is going to end up at third base and Asdrubal will be at shortstop.”
I still find it funny whenever I’m reminded that every player has an exit meeting with the big brass. At some point there’s got to be some awkward meetings.
“We, uh … really wish you would try to suck less. Oh who are we kidding, you won’t be with us next year. ….Thanks for the pie thing, though. We all enjoyed that.”

INTERESTING FACT: Andy Marte’s exit meeting was held in June.
