Reyes exits with sore right elbow
Anthony Reyes left tonight's game with the dreaded elbow soreness. He had a stay on the DL earlier in the season (when with St. Louis) with an elbow strain.

For what it’s worth, Hoynes’s recap of the Reyes situation didn’t sound necessarily doomsday.
Reyes himself quoted in part to say something to the effect of he may not throw a bullpen next time out, but was expecting to make his next start. I think even Wedge said they could have pushed him to 5 or 6 innings but went the cautious route because of the cool inning.
Fingers crossed.

Cool inning? The “cool” inning was the one where we scored 6, it happened later.

WAIT. Why would we call him up when we’re already stacking Akron with major leaguers to win the Eastern League title?
We need all the talent in Akron we can get.

I’d think that perhaps someone like Josh Tomlin, Carlton Smith, or Shawn Nottingham (not a great choice, but he does have AA experience and can start) would probably take Lewis’ spot, correct?)
While Lewis’ development at the ML level is of the utmost importance, like Andrew, I too am a bit puzzled by the timing – Lewis would get 1-2 more starts at most; that would still leave a few weeks in the ML season by the time this upcoming series with Trenton is done.
I too am puzzled why Lewis would be called up right NOW at this time – usually, the Indians would prefer to keep their Minor Leaguers in for their affiliates’ Minor League postseasons unless they absolutely needed the guy at that specific time. That doesn’t seem to apply to Lewis’ case here.
Just my 2 cents.

Um, isn’t he being called up because we need a starter?

I thought that’s what Bullington or even Mastny could do in a pinch, and it sounded like Reyes’ elbow injury isn’t that serious where it would keep him out for too long. Heck, we still even have Weaver, though he’s being mostly used out of the bullpen of late.
I just thought that Lewis was down further in the pecking order where it would take several holes to be present before we’d think we’d call him up, especially with Akron still playing.
Just my 2 cents.

This comment seems particularly silly now.

I think we’ve had those several holes already.
Note too that there is no real service time issue with Iron Lewis — in the unlikely event that he spends all of the next six seasons in the majors, he’d be reaching free agency the same week as his 31st birthday. The likelier scenario is that he spends another three months or more in the minors, doesn’t reach arbitration until after 2012 at the earliest, isn’t a free agent until after 2015 at the earliest. Actually, given his injuries and the high attrition rate of pitchers, the likeliest scenario is that he isn’t still a major league pitcher by that point.
Anyway, I’m just saying, no real reason not to call him up.
