I just realized I’m kind of excited to see Lewis start. Old for his level, but dominant. Might as well get an odd shot at the bigs.
I read the prospect threads but I don’t have a good memory for individual histories. Why did Lewis not stay at AAA when he made those four starts?
those four starts came at the end of the season. they moved him back down to Akron so that he could get in another start or two in the playoffs.

i guess not then. you can’t take clothes off if you don’t wear them in the first place.

One of my suitemates won one in a raffle (he didn’t know that’s what the prize was). Why the hell do people put live animals in raffles? Anyway, we’re trying to decide if we might actually want to keep it.
I was given a newt at my 5th grade birthday party. I got a 2nd newt to go along with it, proceeded to neglect them while they lived in an aquarium in my room for the next 9 years. They didn’t die till my freshman year of college at which point I had donated them to my brother’s high school science classroom.

This talk about newts reminded me of<a href=“”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fr8DIg3oHFI" >" > this scene.
But I guess yours didn’t get better after all.
"It's hard to win when you don't score." Cliff Lee, 9/28/05.
they did get better. in my brother’s classroom their habitat had a waterfall and other running water and apparently their activity level went from semi-comatose to vigorous. But they didn’t stop being newts.

that was a better inning from Jackson. but does anyone else wish we had at least one starter whose fastball sat in the 93-95 range, instead of the 88-90 range?
How was Garko not sat after yesterday’s game? We DID recall Aubrey. I’d even shift Marte to 3rd, Peralta to short, Asdrubal to Short, and throw in Barfield. You may as well see how it works.
Out of curiousity, why are we so down on Garko and not on Gutz? Gutz is having a significantly worse season. Is it his age and D?
Defense is a big factor for me. Also, Gutz has been playing better of late. Going back to Aug. 1st Gutz has an OPS over .830. Gark’s is around .730.

I’ve always thought Gil Meche should change his middle name to “Guh”. That would be epic.

I’d rec this, but I had this thought once before.
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
Yeah, it’s pretty obvious. I’ve thought it for a long time, but this is the first time I’ve been on LGT when Meche is pitching.
what I want to know now is, what are the changes Matt Gamel (Brewers prospect) can get the nick name Matt “Gar” Gamel. Please please please

I was trying to figure out the grammar of this sentence for a while before I figured out you meant “chances”
it is nice to look at a box score and see home runs listed for both Laporta and Hafner. It just looks right.
Why Grady is so awesome, reason #45,035: He’s actually cut down on the strikeouts by a decent bit this year.

We actually need some more of those in runner at third, <2 out situations. Strikes me as a weak area for the team.
Any Sabermetric geeks know if there’s a normalized stat that selectively captures “productive outs”? Meaning, how often does a guy advance a runner when there’s a runner at 2nd with 0 out, or RBI with runner at 3rd, < 2 out, compared to how often he does crappy things like strikeout, pop-up, GIDP in those situations?
How are you liking it up there? I applied for something based in Beantown, it would be a good match, but I’ll have to wait and see if they want to bring me in for an interview.

the Boston area has been great so far, though. I like the city, I like the area, I like where i’m at.

i really like the city. but man i hate those damn fans

they do suck. i’m making my first fenway trip when Cleveland comes into town in two weeks. i’m bracing for the worst
(the worst – sitting behind the presidents of the Kevin Youkilis and Dustin Pedroia fan clubs, who, while cheering, knock over my beer)

i’m still holding out for the “ground out to centerfielder”

I can’t get a read on that, they seem to be relying a lot on the fact that Pacino and DeNiro are in it
I actually do like him, and have since he was in Seattle.

I’ve chosen to target Garko with my (ir)rational disgust

Soriano’s got 3 homers in 6 innings.

This game is so bland and depressing that I just realized I’m listening to the new New Kids on the Block album.

I don’t think it’s a movie built on believability

Maybe we should have drafted Conor Gillaspie?
Isn’t this a stupid way to handle a guy who probably wasn’t signed to a major league contract?
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
Trying to decide if this is dumber than giving Erstad a two-year deal.
I think this is dumber, but it’s a tough call.
I almost feel like Ed Wade deserves the benefit of the doubt, that whatever move he’s made is the dumbest, for reasons I may not be aware of.
Thinking about it some more. Gillaspie won’t use up an option this season, and he’ll be granted a fourth option for his fifth pro season, 2012, if he needs it. So this really only backfires for the Giants if for some reason he’s not ready to stick during the 2013 season, and he’ll turn 26 in July 2013. At that point he’s more or less a bust already – of course, we also said that about the Guthrie and are saying it about Aubrey.
So this move probably doesn’t screw up Gillaspie as an asset too badly. The real problems with it are: (1) there’s no real value in making the move at all, (2) it sets a bad precedent, and (3) it recklessly takes up a 40-man spot this offseason, next offseason and the 2009 regular season in between. The best defense you can make of the move is that the 40-man spot doesn’t matter to them right now, because they’re not contending in 2009 and their minor league depth sucks anyway.
