Indians scout dies
Saw this and thought it was worth passing along. The Indians have done pretty well in Venezuela. Here is the initial story - link

So, are the FanShots now automatically tagging “- Let’s Go Tribe” to the end of everything? Cause in this case it really looks out of place.
Woah. Definitely not my doing. Also, re-reading this I realize my point might get misconstrued. I don’t mean this is sad because the Indians might lose out on some good scouting in Venezuela. I mean it is sad Centeno died, he seems to have been a guy who was very good at what he does.
It didn’t come across in the wrong way. Thanks for putting this up. Very sad.

I thought that was just something Andrew was doing, because I saw it first on two of his posts. I wonder what the coders were thinking putting that in there?
To return to the topic.
Unfortunately it takes a tragedy like this for such an integral part of the Indians organization to make headlines.
Okay, direct significance is hard to peg. Shapiro says he was a mentor to scouts throughout the orgnization.
Many Venzuelans are (or were) on the big-league club: Victor, Asdrubal, Gutierrez/Valbuena (both of them), Betancourt, Mujica (plus Barfield, who’s about as Venezuelan as Mastny is Indonesian). I doubt Centeno signed any of them except maybe Mujica, since Victor was signed 12 years ago and the rest of the guys were acquired from other teams. Having said that, his scouting and knowledge of those players probably played a role in our acquiring one or more of them.
His most obvious influence was on the raft of significant, young prospects signed out of Venezuela who played in Kinston this past season: Jeanmar Gomez, Richard Martinez, Niuman Romero, Carlos Rivero, Hector Rondon. That alone is an impressive haul.
