Tribe was in on Pedro?
According to John Heyman, the Tribe made a $7 mm offer to Pedro before they signed Pavano.
So if the Pavano signing is worth at least $1.5 mm and potentially up to $5.3 mm, does that mean they essentially have $1.7 - 5.5 mm available?
Regardless if it's available, even knowing Pedro's injury history/risk, I'd rather take the $7 mm gamble on Pedro than the $1.5 mm gamble on Pavano.

Not to get picky, but the article says that the Indians never made Pedro an offer:
“The Indians never made a formal offer, but they were contemplating something in the $7 million range depending on how his health checked out.”
I would think that the “$7 million” offer would be highly incentive driven and not fully guaranteed, so no, I’d guess that we don’t have a few extra million lying around.

At least you got it right this time! So you’re showing signs of improvement.

This is really weird…I swear I had a dream last night that the Tribe signed Pedro. I was thinking (in the dream) how awesome it would be to have Pedro tutoring Fausto.
Why? Is there any evidence that Pedro has ever helped anyone pitch before?
Carmona was just fine without Pedro in 2007. And Pedro, by the way, is a jackass.
And Pedro, by the way, is a jackass.
Between Carmona’s rabbit punches, Cliff Lee’s ass-around-your shoulders style and Pedro’s general jackassery, we’d have the most feared pitching rotation the majors.
Think Dunn will take $5.5M?
You know Selig? Ombudsman.

just read something where dolan said if they don’t make the playoffs they will loose money this year. no problem though, since we’re going to.

So, lenred’s post got me thinking, though. Are we just assuming that if Pavano gets the incentive bonuses that we’ll be putting it on a credit card? I’m guessing that has to be the case, which is why we don’t in fact have that other money “available.”

If by “credit card” you mean Dolan’s personal cash…… then yes. But if Carl Pavano is healthy and pitching well enough to reach the incentives one would think the Indians will reach the playoffs.

I’m glad I have LGT. I meet very few Cleveland fans from Ohio that have any level of intelligence regarding the Indians.
