Around SBN: Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e Stoudemire Vow To Fit In With Lin

"The Cleveland Indians acquired OF MICKEY HALL from the Boston Red Sox today to complete the trade of August 12th that sent RHP PAUL BYRD to the Red Sox for a PTBN.

The 24-year old Hall spent most of last season at Double-A Portland, where he hit .232 (61-263) with 16 2B, 13HR and 35RBI in 82 games with the Sea Dogs. Hall also spent time with the Single A Lancaster JetHawks where he hit .216 (8-for-37) in 12 games. The Marietta, GA native was a second-round pick by the Red Sox in the 2003 First-Year Player Draft and owns a 6-year minor league career average of .239 (434-1815) in 538 games."

He’s listed as Michael Hall over at baseball ref, and here’s the link to his numbers. Hey he’s only 23 yrs old in AA, I expected worse.

in fact, as a 22 yr old in high A, he was pretty dominant to a tune of a .960 OPS over 266 ABs. Some power and he’s a LHB. He split time between RF and CF in AA last year, and mostly CF in A+ the year before….. This seems like not a bad prospect for an after thought in the Paul Byrd salary dump.

… which just shows, once again, that age-22 seasons in High-A are not to be taken all that seriously.

I didn’t expect any player – I thought just not having to pay Byrd’s salary for the rest of the season (and using the money to sign some more draft picks) was all that the Indians would get

I’m wondering if getting a live body was conditioned on Byrd reaching the Type B level.

i expected byrd to be the ptbnl… oh well.

One of these days... bang, zoom, straight to the moon...

thebaseballcube says that while he went to high school in Georgia, he was born in Garfield Heights, OH.

We essentially traded the ~50th pick in the 2009 draft for the 54th pick in the 2003 draft, plus $2 million.

Big spike in walk rate toward the end of the season. Seems like they managed to get a guy who is probably worthless rather than definitely worthless.

Tony Lastoria mentioned something about lacking bodies for the Akron outfield. Looks like we’ve got one more.

i see he has spent a fair amount of time in CF. that makes him a little more valuable.

I think this guy will be the next Hank Aaron.

Naw, but maybe Jim Rice.

The next Mickey Mantle. Or Mickey Rivers. Or Mickey Morandini.
