Adam Miller in the DWL: Nasty
Oh hey, now I remember why we were all so excited about Adam Miller a few years ago:
"I mean, he was carving these guys up," the scout said. "A nasty slider, too. Attacked hitters. Threw strikes. If he stays healthy, he’s going to be something to reckon with down the road."

Betancourt as the first guy out of the pen, sixth or earlier? Wow, how the mighty have fallen.

I too am not ready to give up on Raffy B.
Just think if Raffy B. does rebound from 2008 (and his track record would suggest he’s likelier to rebound from 2008 than continue that trend; that DOESN’T mean he’ll be as good as he was in 2007, but if he returns to his 2004-2006 form, that will still be a considerable improvement over 2008), we could potentially shorten the game to 5 innings (i.e. our starters would only have to go 5 solid innings).
As a result, perhaps that questionable #3-#5 slots in the rotation won’t be as weak or problematic as we may think if Betancourt rebounds and the rest of that bullpen is as good as expected. Of course, this doesn’t mean I want the #3-#5 starters to only go 5 IP each time out, but it’d be nice to have that bullpen strength to back up those #3-#5 starters if they falter in some of their starts.
Just my 2 cents.
The "cream of the crop" doesn't always rise to the top.

His early stats weren’t that bad, he just had no stamina for a full ML season. I give him some benefit of the doubt he can be somewhat effective until proven otherwise in April.
Still the local "Barfield Bounces Back Believer" and confident that there's still a lot of Pronk in Hafner. Oh, and for all the love of Cliffy, there's still a Sleepy Kitten inside.

Noone is I think …. but look at it this way.
first game of a series, use Smith in the seventh, Lewis in the eighth, Wood in the ninth.
second game: Perez in the seventh, Miller in the eighth, Wood in the ninth
third game: Lee pitches into 7th, Betancourt in 8th, Lewis in ninth.
No need to throw a reliever in three straight games if they all throw to their capabilities.
Same here. I was frightened.
