Planetary Extreme Baseball Alliance (PEBA)
Offseason got you down? Looking for a fantasy baseball league where you can care about VORP instead of RBI? Give another look at the PEBA, a fictional fantasy baseball league originally formed from members of the LGT community. The PEBA has grown up since you may have last heard about it - we're currently looking to add a second human-run league to the universe by turning our currently AI-run Japan-based league over to human GMs. If you like the idea of running your own team, have grown tired of the simplicity of fantasy baseball, or just can't wait for pitchers and catchers to report, check out the PEBA. You won't be disappointed!
The league is run by LGT poster Corsairs, a dedicated lurker. I run the West Virginia Coal Sox franchise and recently completed a fire sale of epic proportions. My fans may never speak to me again. Come join the fun!

Hi guys, John here. I serve as the Commissioner of the PEBA. Those of you who have been around these parts for awhile may remember that the league got its start right here on LGT. We’re currently a 24-team league and a good number of our owners are LGT readers. Some of the more prominent ones include our friend Voltaire (thanks for the shout-out, Tyler!) and fwembt. PEBA alumni hailing from LGT include NickFantana and nickjs21 (I still rue that the Boulder Mountains of Change aren’t a part of the league, Nick!).
As Tyler mentioned, we’ve experienced a great deal of success since our 2007 inception. Now we’re looking to conduct our first expansion. There’s a second league in our baseball universe, the League of the Rising Sun. It’s a 12-team league that’s the PEBA’s equivalent of Nippon Professional Baseball. Right now the teams are managed by the game’s AI. We’d like to put 12 new owners at the helms of those teams, and what better place to find great new owners than where we got our start?
The PEBA is very different from typical fantasy baseball leagues. We have no connection with MLB whatsoever. Our teams and players are all fictional; we bring them to life ourselves. Statistics are generated by Out of the Park Baseball, the software we use to run the league. You get to control every aspect of your franchise. Set ticket prices, negotiate contracts and extensions, participate in the Rule 5 draft, manage your minor league affiliates… the depth is unprecedented.
We’ve already heard from one LGT member this afternoon and we’d love to get in touch with more of you. This site is populated with some outstanding baseball minds and a ton of creativity, which is exactly what we’re looking to recruit. There’s so much more I could say, but it’s probably best if I let the league do the talking for me:

There’s way too much bolded text in that constitution. You expect anyone to actually read that?

The players are fictional, Jay. Gawd. At least read the posts.
They would have to acquire Mom Tastny.

I released my utility infielder mid-season this year and he promptly signed with a Japanese club, so…yeah, not even close.
I have little more to add to what John and Tyler have written: just that PEBA is totally awesome and that John is one of the greatest people to ever walk the face of the earth, and a mighty fine commissioner to boot. And I’m not just saying that because he bought my book. You should check us out.
Railing against the sacrifice bunt since 2000.

I agree. There could not be a finer commissioner for the online baseball simulation experience. He’s a very kind and understanding guy.
For example, he hasn’t made fun of me once about the fact that my old team (the Charleston Statesmen) are 83-35 in my first year away.
Great franchises aren’t built in a day. Without a doubt, the Statesmen magnificent 2009 season was built on the work you did during your tenure as owner and GM of the team. We miss you, Nick: come back to us when your schedule gets freed up!

YOU are the one I traded Hu to? CURSE YOU!
seriously, though, I didn’t know you were the face behind the Statesmen at that time
Yeah, that trade was a masterpiece, if I do say so myself.

Thank you very much for the kind words, Jeff. And since one good turn deserves another… I don’t know if he’s mentioned it here before, but Jeff has published a fabulous book entitled The Cultivation of Resentment: Treaty Rights and the New Right. It examines how rights dialogue has been used to disenfranchise minority groups (the focus in particular is on American Indians). It’s a fascinating topic and I can’t recommend the book enough. Check your library if the cost is too much for you; I was able to get it through the Cuyahoga County Public Library OhioLink system.
Jeff, I’m currently into chapter 3 and am loving it so far. I fully intend to post a review when I finish it.

I’m really thrilled with the response we’ve gotten so far. A couple new LGTers have officially been brought on board already: the Vail brothers, Dan (posting here as danvail) and Kevin (KevinV). We’ll be especially glad to have their impressive Photoshop skills on our team.
A couple others have gotten in touch and are in the process of being interviewed. There remain openings, though, and we’d still love to add as many Tribe fans as we can to counteract the alarming rise of Rangers, White Sox and A’s fans we’ve experienced over the last year. Please do get in touch with me if you’re even somewhat curious about our league. I’ll promptly supply you with all the info you’ll need. If nothing else, you’ll walk away with a greater appreciation of just how dorky passionate baseball fans can get.
Just to illustrate that point, let me leave off by highlighting this article written by our San Antonio Calzones of Laredo owner. It’s a minor league system analysis of 6 of the PEBA’s 24 teams. No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you: it’s 6,548 words long. And this is just Part 1 of a 4-part series (the other three parts have been posted to our forum). I’m not kidding when I say PEBA owners are passionate!

Wow I still can’t believe how epic that photoshop thread was. And how prescient was the second-to-last comment in that thread?
