Heyman picking it up too, and so is the Associated Press.
Shapiro said they weren’t convinced until the post-interview presser. Suck it, Andrew.*
*Note: Not true.

Excellent!
And I love the fact that he turned down an offer from Houston. I guess the Astros gig really wasn’t his “dream job.”

Don’t know how true it is, the story on ESPN mentions it’s a 3 year deal with a club option for 2013.

Official release from the Indians confirms, through 2012 with a 2013 club option.

I believe we will grow together as a team with the ultimate goal of bringing a championship to Cleveland and its fans.
He’s on a mission!

Pull quote comment:
“[Acta] does sound like Wedge II, doesn’t he?”

I’m ok with Acta, I thought he came off really well, as did Lovullo IMO, but that only tells you so much.
Did any of his staff get announced as well? I would imagine that getting to pick his own staff was discussed at length.

Spending as much time as I do in suburban DC, I have to say I’m surprised the Tribe chose Acta. During his time with the Nats, he seemed likable but relatively colorless. Congrats to him, though, and best wishes!

According to ESPN.com only 3 other managers with at least 2 years of experience have a worse winning percentage that Acta. So I ask you, why the hell did we hire the guy?!?!?

Just got off the phone with Shapiro. He says it was solely to piss you off. That’s it.

It has been explained to you before. If you choose not to at least listen, that is your own choice.

And by the way it’s not like I am throwing crap out and hoping it looks like gold. I’m pointing out truthful things. Hell, the guy has already made the same excuses the FO has been for the past 10 years.
“It’s a good core of players,” said Acta, last week. “They already have an offense in place. If Grady (Sizemore) had been healthy the whole season. And Travis (Hafner) had been healthy and Jhonny (Peralta) would have had his typical year, it’s as good as it gets in the Central.”
There are also statistics to show just how bad he was with the Nationals. You may be able to say they didn’t have the players or the personel. but that’s a bunch of crap. Do we truly have that great of persel or players?

You may be able to say they didn’t have the players or the personel. but that’s a bunch of crap.
Why?
by Voltaire on Oct 25, 2009 4:08 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Because they are all major league players and the Indians don’t have anyone that is leaps and bounds over the nationals players.

If they really wanted a hispanic manager why didn’t the just go down to Central America and pick any random person off the streets that looked like they may know something about baseball.

What? Some guy wearing a baseball cap? Would that qualify me if I were on vacation?

You’re kind of like the LGT version of Igor from Young Frankenstein, only angrier and thereby less fun to have around.

What’s your point? That it’s tough for a manager to succeed with a bad team? Agreed.

by nickjs21 on Oct 25, 2009 4:13 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
That’s what i have been trying to say. So they why does everyone think he will succeced in the Cleveland, the city that hasn’t won a title in any major sport in 40+ years? Besides that we don’t have a good team.
by ClevelandCrazy29 on Oct 25, 2009 4:16 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Wow, this team is older than I thought! I didn’t know they’ve been around that long.

Well clearly the only bearing Cleveland’s title drought has on Acta’s hiring is if, in fact, Sizemore and company have been playing on this team since about 1949.

Heyman on Twitter says Indians “might have hired valentine if he could have committed to them.” Not sure if he’s speculating or not.

just briefly viewed the cleveland.com page and the scout.com page viewing the Browns board. The average fan is an idiot.

Cool.
So I guess they decided to not interview Mattingly, or whoever this nebulous other person was.

He wants to be the all-time leader for loses by a manager and he realizes the only team he can do it with is the Indians.

Now, you want to talk about teams devoid of talent, look at the Astros’ minor league system.

It’s not about being positive or negative about the Indians; it’s about making a positive (and not negative) contribution to the discussion.

You’re ruining this hiring for me.
I don’t mean this in a mean way at all, but cleveland.com is really a place with a lot more people who react like you.
