/sound of tree falling with no one to hear it
- Angels up 1-0.
- Middle of 3rd inning.
- Pettitte keeps sniffing his glove between pitches.
- Good lord, that stadium crammed full of jackasses. I can only imagine the horror of watching this in HD.

Makes me glad I’m watching on a 13-inch screen that’s so old that the idle scene from the FIRST Super Mario World is burned into the pixels. It does give Petitte’s face an interesting texture.

I’m just sort of watching. Probably sit down and give it my undivided attention once the 7th rolls around.
It’s still amazing to me that Pettite is an effective pitcher.

Ok, starting to hate this game now. Yankees up 2-1. Thousands of jackasses are braying. No U2 webcast until 11:30.

Another couple of outs would be a really good idea right now, Saunders.

Shaving cream.
Saunders walks in a run and gets the hook. Oliver in to replace him. I get the funny feeling this is the whole game, right here.

It does seem that way.
Awesome. Double play. Go LAAoA…

- Oliver gets the double play ball from Rizzo The Rat!
- Game theoretically still in reach!
- Pettite must be steamrolled. Now!

It’s so confusing to root for the likes of Torii Hunter.

Justin Chamberlain gets the call from Girardi to relieve Andy Pettite as the tying run comes to the plate.

Maybe not quite yet: Vlad singles in Figgins. Jackasses lead 3-2. Top of the 8th. 2 out. Willits runs for Vlad.

A sac bunt scores a needed insurance run on the Angels. NYY 4-2. Life is too funny.

Ugh. Giants lose and now I’m forced to watch this garbage.

Jesus. How depressing is CC vs. Cliff Lee in game one of the World Series?

I don’t really get it. We already traded them. We don’t trade them less if they lose in the ALCS. Should be fun to watch.

Honestly? The constant, “Those poor bastards in Cleveland must be sick over this” is going to be the worst part. I made peace with the trades and their necessity before they happened. Now, you’re correct, I don’t like to watch them pitch. But I’ll watch this one. Those are two beasts out there.

The New York Yankees erupt into wild celebration on the field just after the final out is recorded and their quarter-billion-dollar ticket to the World Series is punched.
Blugh. Go Philadelphia.

ESPN has posted a headline picture featuring Jeter, Arod, and Teixeira celebrating the victory. I’ll just point out that this trio of players made $83M combined in base salary in 2009.

To break this down a little bit, the biggest jewel heist of all time took place in France in 1994. The robbers stole about 30 million English pounds worth of jewels. Converted to American dollars, they stole about 48.83 million dollars. That is slightly less than 60% of the combined salaries of those three.
by JRontherim on Oct 26, 2009 3:51 AM EDT up reply actions 1 recs
Furthermore, for one million dollars less than double their combined salaries, you could have purchased the former mansion of William Randolph Hearst and Marion Davies. The 6.5 acre large estate has twenty-nine bedrooms, three swimming pools, a movie theater and a disco. It was also used in The Godfather. It sounds a lot more fun than rooting for CC Sabathia.

I think 83 might have been more than the Indians opening day 2009 payroll. It is close.
by Roger Dorn on Oct 26, 2009 8:58 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
$83,000,000 is more than the payrolls of 18 franchises, including the Indians.
by FredOx on Oct 26, 2009 10:16 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
For that money they could have also paid the combined salaries of all players on the 2009 Padres and Marlins.

Saunders was squeezed more than a few times in that game.
Still, it would’ve been nice if the 8th wasn’t a festival of fielding suck.
