Where Does Production Come From
This is an article from The Hardball Times. The author states his methodology as such: "Using Wins Above Replacement and corresponding dollar values from FanGraphs, I found the dollar value for every player who was worth 1.0 WAR or more in 2009. This introduces a bias by excluding many free agents who didn't earn their keep, but it has two benefits: It keeps us focused on players who really contributed, and it reduces the size of the project to something more manageable."
There's a table halfway down the article that breaks down where each team got its production from and is simply another (graphical this time) demonstration of where the Indians front office has excelled and failed at.

Waivers seem to be a problem. Why are the Indians typically losers and not gainers in rule 5, etc.? The White Sox seem to do well there.

Ever since the rebuild in 2002, they’ve almost always had a very tight 40-man roster because of the influx of high-level prospects, and at times having a good minor-league system. That makes for less flexibility on the waiver front, and I can’t remember them actually making and keeping a Rule 5 selection.

Looking over the 40-man roster and the Rule 5-eligible minor leaguers, this could be the year the Indians grab someone from another organization. I think the Indians have the roster flexibility, and they are expecting to have the kind of season when it could be reasonable to carry a great pitching prospect in the bullpen all year, even if he is clearly not yet ready for the majors.

We could grab a guy like Scott Lewis, for sure. Oh, wait.
