Guess Franklin didn’t have a good enough year at the plate.

Franklin said some things African-Americaney wasn’t ready to hear, either.

Give Franklin some lines!

by SuddenSam on Nov 10, 2009 8:02 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Also! To me, Polanco looks like he lost a step this year.

by Ryan on Nov 10, 2009 4:21 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

His head is smaller as well.

by odradek on Nov 10, 2009 10:58 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Is Buehrle a good defender, or did he just throw a perfect game this year?

Il faut d'abord durer.

by CU Adam on Nov 10, 2009 4:24 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

He’s a very good defender, plus he has the great pickoff move.

by Ryan on Nov 10, 2009 4:24 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

agree, begrudgingly.

by Brick. on Nov 10, 2009 4:25 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I knew about the pick-off, don’t remember him being a great defeneder, but I believe you.

Jeter? Really? Sigh.

Had a much much better year defensively, if that helps.

Neyer gives his thoughts on the Gold Gloves picks, and the only ones he liked were Longoria and Buehrle. He mentions Gutz as the biggest snub.

Don’t read the comments — they’re worse that cleveland.com.

by Buckeye Brad on Nov 10, 2009 4:56 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Longoria is an extremely good choice. I seemed to have remembered him winning one last year too [probably was just me thinking he should have won it].

Gutz is without doubt the biggest snub. When the best defensive player on the planet isn’t picked as one of the top 18, there’s a problem.

Finally convinced my dad that Jeter is immensely hatable.

An extremely good choice?

by Jay on Nov 10, 2009 6:45 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

yeah, hyperbole. whatever.

Finally convinced my dad that Jeter is immensely hatable.

by westbrook on Nov 10, 2009 10:13 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Inge, even with a bad knee, is a better defender than Longoria. Obviously Longoria is the better overall player.

by Ryan on Nov 10, 2009 7:22 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I guess people don’t actually get smarter by reading Neyer. You’d think the self-selection would elevate the comment level.

I don’t care about any post-season awards.

But I do get angry because Hall of Fame voters will cite to these awards when they consider a candidate’s worthiness.

I am so sick of Derek Jeter winning things.

If we can call Joba Justin, I propose we start calling Jeter, Retej. Why, I don’t know, just sounds better to me.

by talonk on Nov 11, 2009 12:19 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Except Justin is his real name. I am fairly certain that Derek Jeter is just Derek Jeter.

Managers and coaches select these things, if I remember it right. Most coaches are not known for their intelligence. The managers just write down “Jeter,” because it’s a way of getting the piece of paper off their desk. Why bother thinking about it if you’re a manager? It’s just another dumb media thing.

Ever since A-Rod won the GG over Vizquel in 2002 the award has just been a joke to me. Palmeiro winning in 1999 really was pushing it but A-Rod and subsequently Jeter winning the award has totally cheapened it and made it a popularity contest and not a true accolade of the best fielder at a given position.

by The Grimace on Nov 11, 2009 2:08 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

It would seem Alex Rodriguez had a better fielding year than Omar in 2002. For some flukey reason Vizquel’s numbers stunk it up that year. The Parlmeiro one should have been the big deal.
