Raffie Right not worth $5 million
The Rockies have decided not to overpay Rafael Betancourt. I don't think he's headed back to Cleveland, however, since Colorado seem to be interested in re-signing him. I kind of miss him (the one from a few years ago, anyway).

You know, he was still a pretty good reliever last year, too. He wasn’t 3.2 wins good like he was in 2007, but he was still well above average
My uncle says you've got a screw loose.
Your uncle molests collies.

I don’t understand the Rockies rationale here. He’s still going to command 3-4 million a year for 3 years. Why not overpay him for one year, instead of possibly getting stuck with him for two extra years (if he stinks)?

I don’t know that he’ll command that in this market.

We should be signing him then.
Finally convinced my dad that Jeter is immensely hatable.

You think we should sign a reliever to a three-year deal?
Ain’t gonna happen. I mean, we didn’t even give a three-year deal to this same guy when he was awesome.

Well, those 3 years would be about the same as 1 year of our closer.
And over a 3-year period, he’d likely add more wins than a SP on a 2-year deal at 5M per.
Finally convinced my dad that Jeter is immensely hatable.

And yeah, I’m no GM. This is a stupid way of looking at FA Bucks.
I’ll stick to photoshop.

And the second-round draft pick, #45 or so, the hell with it?

My gut says the Rockies and Betancourt work out a 1-2 year deal potentially with the 2nd year being some sort of option because of his status as a Type A.

Nice (though tiny) win for the Indians on this contract. Some here chastised the Indians for not tying up Betancourt for an extra year following his brilliant 2007. Despite signing the contract when he was at his peak value and a severe plummet afterward, the Indians didn’t do badly at all. They paid out only $4 million total for 2008 and 2009 and also got Cracker Graham for their trouble.
