Actually, someone lawyerize this: Did Deadspin do anything wrong from a legal standpoint, and can they be forced to take the pictures down?

Too late now, the pics are all over the internet, and easily copyable.

Question is why do so many of the pictures show Grady appearing to be coming out of a closet? LOL. He should just chalk it up to experience that you should never send nude photos of yourself over the internet you don’t want everyone else to see. They always get out sooner or later especially if you are famous.

My understanding is that because he made the photographs, he holds their copyright.

Enforcing those rights against legitimate news outlets would seem to be easy, quick, and cheap – attorney boilerplate would likely suffice.

Expunging the images from the internet? Yeah, good luck with that.

At the school where I work, last year all of the English teachers had to do some sort of mini-lesson on the illegality of sexting (for minors) and many added commentary on how stupid it is. Thank you, Grady Sizemore, for teaching that lesson this year.

by jds16 on Nov 30, 2009 5:48 PM EST reply actions

Here’s my problem: I can’t look for Grady Sizemore pictures for a long time now! I don’t want to see the pictures. I just don’t. But I like other pictures of Grady, with clothes on. Now I won’t be able to find those without first seeing these pictures. Luckily I think I have saved quite a few Grady pictures already.

Deadspin showing a lot of journalistic class. From the Plain Dealer:

Deadspin.com editor A.J. Daulerio, who posted 15 pictures of Sizemore in various stages of dress and undress Sunday, said he received the photos from two other Web sites, who had already posted the pictures. He said he had no idea where they obtained the pictures….Daulerio said he didn’t think MLB had the power to remove the pictures from deadspin.com. He said he may consider removing them one day, but as for now he’s going to keep the pictures posted because “in my opinion, they’re part of a larger news story.”

A larger news story? Is this tied in with Tiger Woods somehow?

by odradek on Nov 30, 2009 11:12 PM EST reply actions

“The Trouble With Journalists” is the larger news story.

A guy taking intimate photos for his girlfriend is not news. No matter how you try to spin it, knowing this information is not in the public interest, even if the public finds it interesting.

by Jay on Nov 30, 2009 11:51 PM EST up reply actions   2 recs

I agree. Also, Daulerio doesn’t have the honesty to say, “Hell, look at the traffic we’re getting. All these unique media impressions will help us with advertising.” Gawker Media used to pay by traffic. Not so sure that’s the case anymore.

I am not. I looked her up when we were having our previous discussion because I even said I wasn’t 100% sure. There was an interview with her talking about her experience on momma’s Boys. Unless he has gotten a new girlfriend then that’s her.

I apologize. Apparently her playmate look-alike and name-alike Brittany Fuchs was on Momma’s Boys. I swear they look exactly alike in some pictures. The interview I found before must have just said Brittany. She was on deal or No Deal though. And on Girls next Door. And on Kendra Wilkinson’s new show. by USSChoo on Dec 1, 2009 2:06 PM EST up reply actions

I think this is part of what happened, but what I actually think might have happened is that she shared the photos with a friend or two she thought she could trust because seriously, if you had those pictures of Grady Sizemore would you not show your best friend? And then one of the friends turned out to be less trustworthy than expected.

But then again, I mean, I know of a lot of embarrassing pictures that have gotten out on the internet because of hacked e-mail accounts and Sidekicks, so who knows. The official story is also perfectly plausible.

by AngG on Dec 2, 2009 2:22 AM EST up reply actions

I could see her or her friends talking it in the presence of someone with hacking experience/ability, and knowing a goldmine when he/she sees it, they jumped on it. Somewhere in the midst of what we said is what happened, and that’s too bad.
