CHONE Projects AL Central
These have historically been just as good as PECOTA, and he releases his final projections a whole lot earlier. 90 wins for the Tribe.

lots of people out there seem to want to get laporta up here sooner than later.

When I read the Keith Law scouting report about LaPorta it made him seem like the next Lyle Overbay…

That wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, would it?

I might trade 3 months of CC during a Lost Season for Lyle Overbay, though.

For six years of Lyle Overbay, six years of Michael Brantley, five years of Zach Jackson and an injured relief prospect!

Come on, stick, everyone knows that the linchpin of that deal was Zach’s remaining option year. That’s what we really traded C.C. for.

Just like we traded Bartolo Colon for Lee Stevens.

No, we traded Colon in order to unload Tim Drew’s oppressive contract.

Would that be before or after they discover the Dharma camp and all those supplies? Cuz if it’s before, 3 months of CC would be a lot more valuable for the meat alone…

All the more reason I leave LaPorta down at AAA Columbus for a minimum of 3 months unless he absolutely destroys the league for an extended period (say 1-2 months – I don’t see him up here before June under any circumstances short of us having a tremendous number of injuries at 1B, LF, and/or both that forces us to have to call him up before June – that’s injuries at both at the ML and Minor league levels, involving our 4 main OFers, DeRosa, and Crowe). I don’t think he’s a finished product yet, and especially after he had that whirlwind end of the season last year after we acquired him.
Personally, I’d rather hold out with what we currently have and make sure to the best of our ability that he is fully developed as the prospect we expect him to be rather than rush him up there and risk putting too much pressure on him to hit for power and perhaps mess him up where it takes him longer to realize his full potential and/or he turns out more like Lyle Overbay (who’s not a bad player, mind you, but when we traded CC, LaPorta was considered a blue-chip, premium prospect, and except for perhaps very early in his Minor League career, Overbay was never considered a “blue-chip, premium prospect,” because of his lack of power and more ability to hit for a higher BA, which isn’t considered “blue-chip, premium” quality at 1B, where most want a power-hitting 1B).
Heck, we already have three players who profile more like that (i.e. Overbay) at 1B currently ahead of LaPorta (though none have the track records of Overbay) – Jordan Brown, Michael Aubrey, and Ryan Garko. Why risk turning Laporta into that when some quality time at AAA would help him get into a good groove of showing why he is considered a blue-chip, premium 1B prospect? Especially after struggling with us when we acquired him and all the circumstances occurring with him during that period, I think keeping him in AAA for at least 3 months would be the best thing for him – after all, he’s never played at the AAA level before, so leaving him there for an extended period would not indicate there is something “wrong” with him.
Just my 2 cents.
The "cream of the crop" doesn't always rise to the top.

I wouldn’t say Brown or Aubrey is ahead of LaPorta. Also, I think if LaPorta is hitting well right away, then there won’t be any sort of 3 month minimum imposed. It will depend on the success of our players in LF and 1B at the ML level that will dictate when he comes up. Unless he is just mashing and forces the issue

Agreed. Also, it would take a miracle for Brown or Aubrey to turn into Lyle Overbay at this point.

I want LaPorta to stay down in Columbus for three months so I can watch him play!! My wife and I were at a Blue Jackets game Friday night and I saw the new stadium — it looks really nice. And it’s in a good location; plenty of bars and restaurants around it and easy access to the freeway. We couldn’t believe how quickly we were on the freeway and moving after the Blue Jackets game, and we parked right next to the arena. It’s a much better flow of traffic than trying to leave and Indians or Cavs game in Cleveland.

Just out of curiosity, in retrospect, does anyone recall what that rumored deal was with the Dodgers where we were going to send them Sabathia, Blake, and Carroll?
I thought it was Carlos Santana, Andy LaRoche, Meloan, James McDonald, and Chin-Lung Hu. It’s kind of interesting that Hu and LaRoche had pretty rough MLB stints last year.

I’m sure Santana and Meloan were in that deal, but it seems odd that LaRoche would be, give “the Marte problem.”
