Czech Mate
The Indians signed 17 year-old Czech catcher Martin Cervenka, making him the first European player to sign with the organization. He will remain, under terms of the contract, with the Kotlarka organization next year. This is great. I'm just starting to get familiar with Dominican teams, and now I have to learn the Czech leagues?

Not really, no. I suppose Urquell good as far as pilseners go, but I find the whole category to be a boring. They are the easiest beers to pound, but given that most of my drinking consists of one or two at a time, I don’t find much use for pilseners

I enjoy Pilsners, probably my drink of choice when I was abroad except for my trip to Ireland

Especially in Summer. I think just about every country that alcohol is legal in produces some sort of Pilsner. Most of them are quite good. I think as Americans, we have so many bad Pilseners, mostly referred to as light lagers, that we don’t distinguish the best as Pilseners.

I’ve had plenty of non-American pilseners, and I find them to be boring. I don’t hate them, I’m just ambivalent.

I’ll agree that Pilsners are one of my least favorite styles of beer. But in the right circumstances they can be quite tasty.

This is basically my point of view. Most of the time I’ll opt for an IPA or a Belgian ale of some kind, but sometimes I’m just in the mood for a good German (or Czech) beer of the Pilsner persuasion.

same here, except that “sometimes” is very, very infrequent.

Yeah, though it happens more since I moved down here to the hot desert.

Don’t spend to much time in Plzen or in Czech Rep., Austria or Germany for that matter. Lots of that stuff around those parts.

Presumably this is Mirabelli’s response to the Pirates signing subcontinental Indians. It’s like the friggin’ Cold War out there.

Actually, I think the best response to the Pirates signing Indians would be for the Tribe to sign some Somalians.

The Straits of Malacca has a long history of sea piracy, dating back to the arrival of European colonizers. In those days, piracy plagued the waters of Southeast Asia as a form of rebellion against the foreign rulers. Social poverty drove many Southeast Asian individuals to pursue piracy to make a living. In defense, the British and the Dutch drew a demarcation line dividing the Straits of Malacca, with the agreement to hunt down pirates within their own spheres of influence. To this very day, the British-Dutch demarcation line separating Malaysia from Indonesia remains a border problem in combating piracy.
Now where can we find a baseball player from Indonesia?

huge rec.
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.

Definitely read “Czech Marte” the first time i saw this.
I refuse to ever root for a team that routinely does the MVP chant for opposing players.

If the footage from the movie “Comrades of Summer” can be believed, this can’t be a good idea.

This is awesome. They have steroids over there that MLB won’t know about for decades!
