I had to edit this like 10 times before I realized that clicking the chain-linky-button only provides half of the HTML.
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
So David’s a good storyteller, which would make him a clubhouse hero, if not a hero hero.
Note that the Dellucci signing was a popular one among avid Tribe fans (including myself), especially those who posted on LGT. He looked like a good bet to be a pretty good hitter then, and it wasn’t all that long ago.
The third year always was always a little obnoxious but hey, here we are, and I hope he does well in it.
Now that the ridiculous Dellichaels platoon is gone, David’s my new Gutz.
I’ll admit, I like what I know of Dellucci’s personality enough that I can’t summon up any hatred for him. I divorce it completely from my feelings about his contract.

Would it help you to realize that José Guillen’s three-year contract was for $21M? And that he hasn’t done much more for the Royals than Looch has for the Tribe?
"I've never complained about it. I'm thankful to have a jersey." Mark DeRosa, 22 Aug 2007
Well it mostly helps that $4 million isn’t really sinking them in the first place. It doesn’t come close to that Guillen monstrosity.

I wasn’t a member but I recall complaining specifically to tsn.com about how terrible this move would be. All that said I root for David to do well but I have no expectations.
This move, like Ricky Gutierrez earlier in the decade, has never had the proper expectations attached. Ocker recently said DD was expected to provide solid production in the middle of the order. As if you could buy that for $3.75 million a year or $11 million total.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
I also expect Ocker to write good stuff, so I guess we all get a little bit ahead of ourselves in retrospect.
I’ve always said to put me in the camp that thought the Dellucci signing was great. He could slug the hell out of the ball in a platoon role. Why not?

Well, look at it another way … if he manages somehow to post a VORP of 23 in any one season, that would match the whole market value of his contract.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
I don’t think you’re managing our expectations properly

Remember when one of the arguments for the signing was that his contract made him eminently “tradeable”? Um… not so much.

It is worth noting here that Garret Anderson’s new contract with the Braves ($2.5 million) is less than that remaining on Looch’s ($3.75 million).
It is fascinating how much the market has corrected on old outfielders.
Have you taken a look at the economy lately?

And yet they felt the need to hire Ed Wade on top of that!
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

I feel like this whole thing has been pretty misleading.
The story, as far as I can tell:
- DD comes to camp with thumb injury.
- DD tells tall tale to credulous teammates involving rescuing a child from a gator.
- DD tells reporter tall tale, waits a few seconds to see if he’s buying it, then says “Just kidding.”
- DD tells the real story.
He let some of his teammates walk away believing it — no “just kidding” — but we all might put on our friends and coworkers like this. He never let a reporter believe it for more than a few seconds, nobody in the media walked away believing it, and it never got reported.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
The Irish would say he was “havin’ a pi—.”

I think Castro wrote about it just to make fun of himself.
