Maybe the best Cleveland.com comment ever.
First of all, this is all sounding redundant. The article sucks and the commenters suck. But this is really outstanding, I promise.
First, I love that Hoynes states as fact that Grady's batting average is "failing." Perhaps he meant to write, "falling." Um, let's hope. It's still silly.
Second, this piece smacks of a writer who is just now coming around to the idea that batting average is, in fact, overrated.
Third, just read the first comment. I mean, to equate someone saying, "Batting average is overrated," with someone saying, "Wins are overrated," well... Well done. Well done, indeed.

I don’t know, it seems at the end of the piece (last 4 paragraphs) that Hoynes really hasn’t come around.
Sizemore has a lot of impressive numbers. He’s scored 100 or more runs in the last four years. He went 30-30 (33 homers, 38 steals) last year to become just the second Indian in history to do it. He scored over 100 runs for the fourth straight season.
The PD commenters are on his azz about that, too.

I actually thought this bit was funny:
When Wedge and GM Mark Shapiro met with Sizemore at the start of camp for their annual meeting, the center fielder was told he’d get more time off this season. This came from a manager who has never played Sizemore fewer than 157 games in a season over the last four years.
“Mark always laughs at me when I say it,” said Wedge. “Like I’m not going to do it, but I really am going to try and do it.”
Mark: $500 and Casey Blake you won’t sit him, Wedgie.
Eric: You’re on!
Andy: I can’t get out of here fast enough.
Though I look right at home, I still feel like an exile

“Batting average, unfortunately for a lot people, it’s only been really noted in the last five or 10 years, that it is somewhat of an overrated stat. There are so many other numbers that are more important to a team winning a ballgame — that’s all that matters.”
There’s a part of me saddened that in the year 2009 a quote like this from a major league manager is enough to excite me.

Just keep that in mind every time you feel like burning him at the stake: At least he doesn’t care about batting average.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
The article, while mind-bogglingly stupid and retrograde in its conception, is still worth a read for the scene Wedge paints …
- Wedge is telling Grady he’s going to rest more.
- Grady is giving him his death-stare at the news.
- Shapiro, in the room but not talking, can’t stop laughing at the spectacle.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
- Hoynes, in the room but not talking, can’t stop crying. Minutes earlier. the three other men in the room, for the third time, stopped their conversation and told Hoynes to “SHUT UP” in unison when Hoynes offered that Grady’s batting average was 10 points higher after a day off.
