Game Thread: February 25, 2009
Cleveland vs. San Francisco, 3:05 PM (WTAM, STO, MLB Network)
Cactus League
Exhibition games get boring pretty quickly, but when you haven't seen a live professional game in over four months, any form of Major League Baseball is exciting. If you add in the opening of Goodyear Ballpark, and the first Cactus League game in 17 years, it's about as good as a Spring Training game can get.
Jeremy Sowers will get the start, but given how early it is, won't go longer than an inning or two. The indians.com preview groups Jeremy in a five-man group for the fifth starter spot; that group also includes Aaron Laffey, David Huff, Zach Jackson, and Scott Lewis. That many pitchers either in the rotation or having a shot at it means that the schedule is going to be a bit jumbled the first few weeks of exhibition games:
The Indians have ensured the candidates for the open rotation job will get that extended look by pushing the spring debut of reigning Cy Young winner Cliff Lee, who amassed a career-high 223 1/3 innings last season, back to the first week of March. Pavano and Reyes will also be held back early on.

cleveland.com comes through:
Giants: RF Randy Winn, SS Edgar Renteria, 3B Pablo Sandoval, C Bengie Molina, 1B Travis Ishikawa, CF Aaron Rowand, LF Nate Schierholtz, 2B Emmanual Burris, DH Juan Uribe and LHP Tim Lincecum.
Indians: CF Grady Sizemore, 2B Mark DeRosa, SS Jhonny Peralta, C Victor Martinez, 1B Ryan Garko, LF Ben Francisco, 2B Jamey Carroll, DH Carlos Santana, RF Trevor Crowe and LHP Jeremy Sowers.
I’ve heard of position battles, but this is taking it a bit far.

Yes, I plan on trying the watch-the-video-feed-but-listen-to-the-radio feature on MLB.TV, assuming it works for Spring games, which it probably won’t.
There will be both audio and video but new this year on MLB.TV Premium is the ability to substitute the audio feed when watching the video. Not sure if that works yet, and it may depend on the new video player, which won’t be available for Spring games.

I’m not comparing them to the Indians, actually, just looking at what I’d like my organization to have. Below AA, I’ve got one position prospect worth caring about. That’s obviously not ideal.
I do have three position players reading to break into the bigs sometime during the upcoming season (2010), and all should be stars, so that’s nice. But below that…almost nada.

when you see a new comment just go to the top of the page, mouse click, and then Z. should go to the top most new comment.

yeah, that is my one qualm with z. sometimes if you let the comments sit for a minute or two, you can z and it will go up page
