Generally Game Threads over 300 posts or so will really tax older computers (at least that was my experience when I had one), plus it tends to become a bit unwieldy to navigate.

That’s what makes it fun. It’s like spelunking.

I am down with the edamame suggestion, by the way

I agreed in the last thread. I like this too.

So how many votes do we need for majority, or is this a case where 2/3 is needed

I had edamame for lunch if we win today I think that might be a sign!

Ethics in research on insider threat

by Turkmenbashi on Feb 25, 2009 1:44 PM EST up reply actions

ok, so, not my specialty.

So 2009.

by Gradyforpresident on Feb 25, 2009 1:46 PM EST up reply actions

Not mine either. I’m just doing it because

*I love the boss I’m working with on it
*It’s a chance to be a co-author on a paper, something people in my position at RAND never get an opportunity to do

But really, I couldn’t care less about the topic, and that’s why I’m really struggling.

I'm *always* in the driver's seat, cugino -- Chuck

by Turkmenbashi on Feb 25, 2009 1:49 PM EST up reply actions

i believe it. i don’t even understand what ethics in research on insider threat means.

So 2009.

by Gradyforpresident on Feb 25, 2009 1:50 PM EST up reply actions

We’re trying to put together a handbook with ethical guidelines for people conducting research on malicious insider activity, and by that we basically mean people committing cyber crimes from within a company or organization.

So 2009.

by Gradyforpresident on Feb 25, 2009 1:59 PM EST up reply actions

Well, I’m talking almost exclusively about admin stuff right now. There may be some research assistant positions open, but I have no “ins” on those. Doing admin stuff at RAND is still a pretty damn good deal, though.

Evidently I didn’t make the point of the “Review Post” clear. It’s great that people were posting feedback on the Annual in that thread, but there was an actual link to the MSP site … where you can Post a Review.

Which nobody actually did.

So if you’re killing time and overflowing with the Tribe love right now anyway, why not cruise over to that page (click link above) and post a review of the Annual?

If we get 10 legit reviews before game time, I’ll post an Annual outtake right here in this thread.

by Roger Dorn on Feb 25, 2009 2:40 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t know whether this is funny, sad, good, or just strange

by APV on Feb 25, 2009 2:42 PM EST up reply actions

The other day my brother asked me, “So, what are the chances we’ll ever see Marte in an Indians uniform again?”

And I said, well, three things would have to happen, and each of the three is unlikely.

1. Marte would have to clear waivers.
2. Marte would have to kill the ball in Columbus.
3. Wedge would have to be hit by a bus.

That doesn’t really answer your question, but it does flesh it out a bit.

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

by Jay on Feb 25, 2009 2:44 PM EST up reply actions

I think #4 might be Torey Lovullo getting run over by a elephant on the run from the zoo. As Tony posted on his site, it’s going to be interesting now to see where Marte fits into the AAA lineup. The organization must prioritize him over Aubrey, but probably not Hodges, and there are a bunch of other guys of interest on that squad.

by APV on Feb 25, 2009 2:46 PM EST up reply actions

This might be a good opportunity for him to learn to throw a knuckleball.

Lead singer and driver of the Winnebago.

by Fredward on Feb 25, 2009 2:49 PM EST up reply actions

Or drive a bus.

by Julie on Feb 25, 2009 3:16 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

It isn’t as simple as it appears. Marte is only nine months older than Hodges and a far better defender. The hitting track record, based on age/level, heavily favors Marte, even if you only count 2007 for Triple-A.

Still, you have to play Hodges at 3B every day, because you’re trying to see if he can be a big-league 3B as a defender, something which Marte already is. Marte just needs to work on his hitting, something he can just fine switching between 3B, 1B and DH. If Garko doesn’t bounce back in a significant way, it won’t take much for Marte to supplant him at least as a bench option. We already know he can bunt.

So when the Indians say, Hodges will be the main 3B in Columbus, that isn’t exactly the same thing as saying he’s a higher priority. There’s no real downside for either player by having Marte be the guy floating around.

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

by Jay on Feb 25, 2009 2:56 PM EST up reply actions

Best case scenerio is that Marte kills in AAA and we can flip him for something of value.

Maybe interested teams were convinced that we would release him before this season is over. I wouldn’t doubt it.

Okay, so … what happened so far?

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

I think we need another game thread here buddy.

Chug .. chug … ch.u..g

by Toxicadam on Feb 25, 2009 3:19 PM EST up reply actions

typical tribe:
sowers = average
jhonny didn’t get to a grounder
garko made a popup an adventure

by oaksterdam on Feb 25, 2009 3:19 PM EST up reply actions

it’s definitely warmed in Goodyear than Cleveland/Boston/Philadelphia

by APV on Feb 25, 2009 3:19 PM EST up reply actions

Sowers has moved on the rubber.

Also, he’s the same. Many hard hit foul balls, a double to Edgar R and an rbi single to Ishikawa. Also, Garko chased a ball into foul territory then chased it back into fair territory then caught it.

by afh4 on Feb 25, 2009 3:19 PM EST up reply actions

Was that as amusing at it sounds?

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

by Jay on Feb 25, 2009 3:20 PM EST up reply actions

Especially with the left field experiment as background, yes.

I refuse to ever root for a team that routinely does the MVP chant for opposing players.

by TheVanillaGorilla on Feb 25, 2009 3:20 PM EST up reply actions

I’m listening so, for me, it involved a lot of Hammy getting really excited about Garko. Which was just sort of amusing.

by afh4 on Feb 25, 2009 3:21 PM EST up reply actions

Are Manning and Underwood wearing matching shirts?

by millionairesrow on Feb 25, 2009 3:19 PM EST reply actions

And I scratch my forehead for the first time today. What a mess.

Though I look right at home, I still feel like an exile

by Manhattan Tribe Fan on Feb 25, 2009 3:19 PM EST reply actions

Wait, why is Grady leading off?

by afh4 on Feb 25, 2009 3:20 PM EST reply actions

what’s up with Lincecum’s hair?

by APV on Feb 25, 2009 3:20 PM EST reply actions

So how many Lincecum innings do we have to deal with?

by Roger Dorn on Feb 25, 2009 3:20 PM EST reply actions

I would imagine no more than three.

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

by Jay on Feb 25, 2009 3:21 PM EST up reply actions

Somebody somewhere said he was only getting 25 pitches.

I refuse to ever root for a team that routinely does the MVP chant for opposing players.

by TheVanillaGorilla on Feb 25, 2009 3:21 PM EST up reply actions

Today is sort of like the first time we got Andy Marte, if you think about it. We should all be excited.

by afh4 on Feb 25, 2009 3:21 PM EST reply actions

So, it’s like getting Andy Marte all over again?

by woodsmeister on Feb 25, 2009 3:22 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah. It’s like the second time you get molluscum contagiosum. You know how it’s going to go, so hey, just enjoy it.

by afh4 on Feb 25, 2009 3:23 PM EST up reply actions

It is kind of like getting him back.

Instead of being someone else’s Carlos Pena, maybe he can be ours.

Not that I’m betting on it.

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

by Jay on Feb 25, 2009 3:23 PM EST up reply actions

Manning now stealing talking points from my Antonetti interview.

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

by Jay on Feb 25, 2009 3:22 PM EST reply actions

I’m sure the guy’s read it, right? Even non-LGTers have been talking about it.

I'll regress to my career numbers if you do too!

Renteria might not have been the best signing this winter

Though I look right at home, I still feel like an exile

by Manhattan Tribe Fan on Feb 25, 2009 3:22 PM EST reply actions

I was going to do a fanpost asking about the worst 5. I think Ibanez and Renteria should make the list.

by Toxicadam on Feb 25, 2009 3:23 PM EST up reply actions

Burnett if you ignore the unlimited resources part. I feel like Ibanez probably tops the list.

I refuse to ever root for a team that routinely does the MVP chant for opposing players.

Derosa put a little extra grit on that grounder.

So who had JP in the First Official Hit in the Goodyear Ballpark contest?

by FredOx on Feb 25, 2009 3:23 PM EST reply actions

I did, especially after reading about Grady’s plummeting batting average.

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

by Jay on Feb 25, 2009 3:24 PM EST up reply actions

For what it’s worth, I like this team a lot more when Victor’s around
