Interest in Pedro Martinez?

"The Dodgers, Pirates and Indians are interested in signing Martinez, but the right-hander has not received an official offer, according to the newspaper."
Doesn't say much, but if we are interested in Pedro, it tosses a wild card into rotation.

if the price is right, why not give him a shot. aren’t the indians regarded as having a great medical/coaching staff for guys coming off injury? if they could manage to hit on both pedro and pavano (super long shot of course) i think it would be funny for those two to be in the same rotation. and even though it’s 10 years too late, i’d still love to see pedro wear the smiling face

I know it’s been a decade or so, but Pedro in an Indians uniform would seem like John Elway in a Browns uniform to me.

Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.

my first attempt at height and width on here is a success!

Looks like a disaster to me.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

well thats because i used dimensions larger instead of smaller… inviting pixelation into the picture (pun intended)

I feel like he was going for a disasterish success. A metaphorical image. I might be drunk but i hope i am representing his point at least 31% well.

Someone needs to alter the established at 99.1/96.7 to 2005.

I’m very, very skeptical that the Indians are at all considering Pedro at this point. I think legit reports of our interest date back to before we signed Pavano, and I think we signed Pavano in part because Pedro expressed very little interest in joining the Indians or any other AL team.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

seems to have a ring of truth to it

i’d rather see D. Huff pitching in a Tribe jersey than Pedro. Or Laffey for that matter. Pedro is nothing but an ego standing on a mound of dirt.

Yeah, ummm… that and a hall-of-fame pitcher, albeit on the (possibly steep) downside of his career. I share your preference for Huff, but Pedro’s not exactly chopped liver.

Actually, I just looked up his stats and I’d say chopped liver pretty well sums up his last couple years. He’s 37 years old, injury prone, hasn’t pitched more than 132.2 innings in a year over the last three years, his WHIP the last two years has been over 1.4, his walks have gone up dramatically. Last year he had a negative VORP. And he put up those numbers in the National League.
To top it all off, he wants to get paid like he’s still one of the top pitchers in the league, which he’s not.
The only advantage of signing Pedro would be that he would actually hit batters on the other team when our batters get hit. That’s it. He would be our version of a hockey enforcer.

There could be value in that

So he’s now Jeff Juden.

Ouch.
How about long relief? He’d love that, wouldn’t he?

Interesting that the Buccos are rumored to be in the mix. I kinda hope they get him.

Living in NYC I know from reading the Post everyday that Pedro is a polarizing figure in the clubhouse . . . and always hurt. One gamble (Pavano) is enough for me this year.
