Lopez singled, someone flied out, Lopez was caught stealing Shoppach-Droobs, then someone got out. Somehow. Indians coming to bat.

So 2009.

Third out was, of course, a ground ball.

Did anyone else have trouble loading the site in the 15 minutes around the game’s start time? Are we in bandwidth trouble?

by NickFantana on Feb 26, 2009 3:20 PM EST reply actions

Yeah, I couldn’t get to the site. It might not have anything to do with bandwidth though.

Oh, Matt LaPorta.

Actually I blame Laffey for that one. Shoulda gotten the ground ball.

Steel Nick

LaPorta misplayed a ball in LF. Should ahve been caught. Might have been lost in the sun or miscommunication between Matt and Grady. Gift double for Conor Jackson

So homers are common in AZ, but not for the Tribe. And fly balls are hard to pick up in the desert sun, but only for the Tribe.

There is room on my LaPorta brought up in April bandwagon if anyone wants to hop on

by Roger Dorn on Feb 26, 2009 3:42 PM EST reply actions

How was Laffey? And who was responsible for the unearned run?

by APV on Feb 26, 2009 3:43 PM EST reply actions

Laffey muffed a catch while covering first base. Otherwise got a couple nice ground balls.

by JRontherim on Feb 26, 2009 3:43 PM EST up reply actions

Laffey was responsible for his own unearned run, with an assist from LaPorta. Connor Jackson hit what was apparently a catchable flyball to left field that was dropped for a “double” then Mills fielded a grounder & flipped to Laffey, who whiffed on it which let Jackson score.

DISCLAIMER: I may be bitter.

by zempf on Feb 26, 2009 3:44 PM EST up reply actions

To be fair, Mills did more than flip it. Laffey seemed surprised by the velocity. Still should have grabbed it.

Shelton’s in the TV booth. “Excited” about Hafner. Balls coming off the bat well, driving it the other way.

by FredOx on Feb 26, 2009 3:46 PM EST reply actions

Man, I keep trying to temper my expectations for Hafner, but there’s definitely a part of me that’s hoping he’ll hit 35 or so bombs for us this year.

DISCLAIMER: I may be bitter.

why would there be a part of you not hoping for that?

by Brick. on Feb 26, 2009 4:17 PM EST up reply actions

I guess I should say there’s a large part of me hoping for that, while I realize I should probably lower my expectations & figure he’s probably going to play for 2 weeks in April & then we get to spend the rest of the season hearing about what percent his shoulder’s at.

Nothing of earth-shattering. They talked a while about him but mostly stuff we already know.

Says they aren’t worried about the lack of home runs because his power is very projectible. Talked about strike zone judgement and how that has them excited. Said that he is a work in progress in the field.

And as APV mentioned, they marveled at his size. First thing mentioned, actually.

On the ESPN bottom line ticker thing, it was listing the top 3 regressing players for fantasy at each position. It was listing mostly logical players, guys like Tejada. Then under pitching, it had Carmona. I was almost offended. Then I remembered it was ESPN.

Holy crap, no way that was a strike. Cassel’s reputation got him that call.

If we put the franchise tag on him, we might be able to get something back in a trade

“so tell me, what kind of stuff does Ohka have these days”

"well, you know, he’s an interesting guy. he’s got a nice straight fastball that sits around 84-85 mph. a curve that doesn’t have too much of a break – nobody likes a guy who’s greedy – and a 82 mph straight change.

by APV on Feb 26, 2009 6:32 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

Wait till you see his knuckleball. It’s about 82 MPH without any break – totally throws off the batter.

by Voltaire on Feb 26, 2009 6:40 PM EST up reply actions

just listening to the Torey Lovullo (sp?) interview on the MLB broadcast. the organization clearly likes Crowe – not as a potential star, but as a potential useful part. And I think they want to give him a shot this season.
