Spring Training Recap: Rockies vs. Indians, March 11
First glimpse of Goodyear. Seems like it will be nice when it is completely finished. Solid field, but lacks 'character' when compared to Winter Haven and some of the old Florida joints. Sure the players care very little about character and much more about spacious, modern locker rooms. Overall, not as elegant a campus as Camelback Ranch, the only other Arizona field I've been able to compare it to.
Highlights: Seeing Cliff Lee warm up in the bullpen.
Seeing other Tribe fans (even if most of them were 60+)
Getting some real sun.
The mere presence of Carlos Santana. (#77)
Ben Francisco's outfield assist was sweet.
Sowers pitching effectively.
Dexter Fowler is fun to watch ... has some great speed.
Bob Feller signing autographs.
Ultimate Highlight: My 6-year old son Ethan getting a baseball from Sal Freaking Fasano!
Lowlights: The Tribe didn't show up. At all.
Another no-at bat performance for our first baseman of the future, Andy Marte.
11 K's. I wish this team could cut down on the double-digit strikeout games. Maybe I'm irrational, but they seem to whiff too much.
Josh Barfield, first ceremonial pitch catcher. (This could be a highlight depending upon how you look at it.)
Bob Feller signing autographs for $10.
LGFT: Rockies -- Sal Fasano, Alan Embree.
Worst Jersey Sighting: Vote for your favorite -- Justin Huber Royals Jersey or Glenallen Hill Rockies Jersey.

Bottled water is $3.75. Beer is $5.50-ish?, but they have some local stuff (New Belgium brewery, Deschutes Brewery) that looked interesting.
The chicken tacos were not bad.
Security wasn’t too tight, so smuggling in a water or two shouldn’t be hard.
Signature to be named later.
New Belgium brewery, Deschutes Brewery
Close, but no cigar, try Portland. I had never heard of it until researching my trip to AZ in a couple weeks. Let us know if you try one.

And New Belgium is from Colorado.
There is a local brewery of dubious fame in the Phoenix area.
Are there any decent brewpubs in Phoenix? As big as that city has gotten to be there has to be one or two good ones, right?

Huber without a doubt. The person wearing it had to be a relative of his. Who else goes to a Rockies-Indians game with a Huber Royals jersey on?
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
I think rockin’ a LGFT Glenallen Hill jersey is pretty cool.

“Bob Feller signing autographs for $10.”
I saw him in Winterhaven last year doing the same thing. I guess he has to pay the bills somehow. I remember when he was wrapping up, a guy gave him a $20 for an autograph. Bob signed the ball, and then got up to leave. The guy meekly asked, “Can I get my change.” To which Bob responded, “you give me a $10, I’ll keep the $10. You give me a $20, I’ll keep the $20. I’m not an ATM.” He then walked off into the distance. I think I saw him grinning.
