Indians linked to Pedro... yeah right
According to John Heyman at SI and MLB Network, Pedro Martinez has received interest from 4 teams (Dodgers, Mets, Pirates, and the Indians). Sounds like Pedro's agent, Fern Cuza, is trying to make a market for his client. Fern goes on to say that additional teams haved entered the mix. Based upon the rumored guaranteed money (5 million), I don't think this is much more than posturing by the agent. Maybe the Dodgers or the Mets are desperate enough to up the guaranteed money to attract the servicable starting pitcher back to baseball. Good luck to whatever team meets his demands. Let's hope its not Cleveland.

I think Heyman is just referring to earlier stories linking those four clubs to Pedro, back before the Indians signed Pavano instead.
Also, I think this should be a fanshot.

heyman has mentioned the indians pretty much every time he has mentioned pedro in the last 4 months or so simply because he heard something 4 months ago. it’s ZERO valid anymore. especially with pedro’s refusal to take a glavine deal

It’s hard to say what the situation is, but let’s clarify…he didn’t report that the Indians and three other teams were “interested” in Pedro…he reported that the Indians and three other teams were “considering signing” him. I think there’s a difference. Also, in yesterday’s game thread, I linked to a story that quoted an Indians official, when asked about Martinez, saying “that’s an interesting name”. That quote was from this week. So I think there is interest, but as I state below, I don’t think it will happen.
I’d be very surprised if he did sign with the Tribe since I doubt the Indians have any money to do it, among other considerations. Also, from other talk I’ve heard, Pedro may prefer the NL or warm weather, and he also has a history with the Dodgers. That’s where I think he’ll end up.
Like I said in yesterday’s post, just purely from what I saw in highlights, Pedro has much better stuff than at antyime in the last couple of seasons. His fastball looked MUCH better. So just based on that alone, I would be in favor of signing him. But with all the other considerations, and along with his apparent preferences, I don’t see it happening.
