RHPs John Meloan, Adam Miller, Hector Rondon and Juan Salas, LHP Tony Sipp, C Carlos Santana, and 2B Luis Valbuena were optioned to Triple-A Columbus.
RHP Jack Cassel, LHP David Huff, C Armando Camacaro, 1B Jordan Brown, 3B Wes Hodges, INF Jesus Merchan, 1B Beau Mills and OF Stephen Head were reassigned to Minor League camp...There are now 44 players remaining in camp.
Castrovince Reports Second Round Of Cuts. Among other things, this tells us that David Huff isn't going to be the 5th starter and that Meloan won't make the bullpen (if anyone thought that was happening). The Miller thing is interesting-apparently going on the major league DL is not in play, as had been discussed a bit yesterday.

only if they cut bait on Masa. I agree Chulk has probably won westbrook’s roster spot. and i suspect if he can go more than one inning at a time, zachson will remain a starter not a long man.
I’m going to keep this up. Zach Jackson: Not a throw-in.

Just doesn’t add up for me, unless Milwaukee was convinced Jackson was a lost cause.
We know at the time of the trade that (1) Shapiro squeezed every last drop of value out of Sabathia, down to a handshake agreement on Green/Brantley, and that (2) Milwaukee had a very shallow rotation and was in a playoff hunt.
Under those circumstances, if we were just getting one other guy, why a AAA starter (who, as it turns out, Milwaukee could’ve used) unless we actually wanted the guy we got?

There is no doubt that Zach would have started a few games for the Brewers had he not been traded.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Might he have pitched an NLDS game?
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
Probably he would have. They started Gallardo in Game 1 — 22 years old and just days off a four-month stint on the DL. He went four innings on Sept 25 as his only appearance since May, and I think it’s pretty clear they’d rather have not been using him. Suppan went in Game 3, and he had an 8.44 ERA in five September starts, so that’s not good. Sabathia and Bush were fine choices for Games 2 and 4.
Between Gallardo and Suppan, I have to think Zach would have been in the mix.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
No, that was a concurring opinion, not a dissent.

I think we all agree that he can be useful. I would just say that (a) he’s not likely to be anything more than a spot starter or one of the last guys out of the pen, (b) there are dozens of those types sitting around, and ©.
I dont even know how to do that. Or what it means.

how did you type it without the circle, then?
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
use the copyright button. Ironic, isn’t it?

Was about to post that. It makes more sense. He pitched for Akron yesterday, and hey, it’s still spring training.
Aww, I was kind of hoping Santana had made such a huge impression that the FO made a highly uncharacteristic move. Oh well, back to being only extremely excited to have him around.
Carmona for Cy Young 2009
Nope nope. You fight your way though the Indians’ farm system, inch by bloody inch.

It’s actually a direct quote, and photo, from The Man Who Would Be King. I also love Zulu, however.

This may be a stupid question, but what’s the difference between being optioned to Columbus and being reassigned to Minor League camp? Obviously Columbus isn’t playing yet so where do those players go — are they still in Goodyear but just not playing with the Indians in spring training games any more?
take a look at the names and that will give you a clue. guys on the 40-man, i presume must be optioned.
exactly – for the players on the roster, this is a formal “option” usage. For the guys not on the roster, this is just a shuffling of what practice field they show up for without any formal change in their status.
I guess most significant is that Scott Lewis is still in the battle for 5th starter.
Also, Crowe, Laporta, Brantley and Aubrey remain eligible for ST play for now. And… Marte!
I have a feeling that Laffey/Lewis is not going to be decided by publicly available criteria, unless one of them implodes.
Laffey Lewis sounds like Taffey Lewis, the casino owner from Blade Runner.

he’s ultimately going to be the guy he’s most comfortable with allowing to hit the ground running in the majors.
Aaron’s a guy, you know, who we feel very good about. Scott’s a guy we feel good about also. But we fell good about Aaron.

Christopher is a good boy — I’ve always liked him. But that other one … I don’t know.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Sounds familiar, can’t put my finger on it.

Sopranos Season 1, Livia subtly orders a hit on Christopher’s running buddy, who’s pissing people off.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
I’m pretty confident that this is the first Brendan Filone mention in LGT history.

You know what? I would have had that dead to rights in about a week. I’m gearing up to re-watch that series…..but I remember it from the first time.

I’m going more on what I think the brass is leaning towards. They weight ML experience very heavily.
i felt like this was a given all along. same with meloan. i also think it’s a given we see both topside this year.
