"I don’t believe that on-base percentage stuff. That’s overrated to me. If you get hits, you’ll be on base. That’s what it’s about."

I know this is so facepalm obvious it’s almost not worth it. But come on. Especially from that guy.
And I get it if a player doesn’t care about the number crunching or how he’s being evaluated, but
A) OBP is telling us something about Brandon’s performance.
B) I don’t think this quote exists if Brandon Phillips has a lifetime OBP > .308.
C) He’s actually crapping on walks and plate patience here, not on-base percentage. And that’s not him ignoring the stats, that’s him ignoring an important process that would probably help his team.

If Adam Dunn were a Gold Glove caliber middle infielder, he could lose the walks and do just fine. As Phillips has.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
His defense is a huge, huge reason he’s been such a positive impact for the Reds. He’s been a ~4 win player for them over the past two years.
But man that quote sucked. When Dusty Baker says “Be more selective,” you need to stop being a curmudgeon.
Steel Nick
do just fine
I assume you mean, good, not be nearly as good as he could be

Nice tags. I almost scrolled right past them.
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
that’s a new verb tense i’ve been developing. i am still has working the kinks out on it.

You know, per our discussion on 60-second timed edits: It would obliterate the fun of reading Brick. So, I has change my vote.
Did you think it was meant to be subtle?

I thought it was nicely turned.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

I think I might have just done a complete 180 on the proposed “edit” feature.
Don't be stupid. PUT IN MELOAN.
Maybe Brick can just ignore it, let the edit time expire, and post anyways.
Signature to be named later.
Disclaimer for random Reds fans: even with a poor OBP, Phillips is still a very valuable player becuase of his defense, baserunning, and power (for his position).
That said, it’s a stupid comment.
Well, um… 2007 Brandon Phillips, absolutely. 2008 Brandon Phillips, not-so-much.
2008 BP K/AB up, SLG down, CS% up. Curious regression there.
Don't be stupid. PUT IN MELOAN.
All noted.
FACT: Brandon Phillips is a good player.
ALSO FACT: Brandon Phillips is not Joe Morgan.
Don't be stupid. PUT IN MELOAN.
It’s like Casey Blake not believing in his beard.

maybe not, but he put up an outstanding .392 career mark
by APV on Mar 2, 2009 2:39 PM EST up reply actions
nope. which is fun, because he’s the poster child for the player set most undervalued by traditional thinknig
I don’t know about that exactly. I don’t think it escaped traditional thinkers’ notice when he led the league in slugging while playing second base. He is a first-ballot HOFer, voted in by the traditionalists.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Side dislaimer for Reds fans: Please don’t come here during interleague to talk trash. It’s really a waste of your time
Further disclaimer for Reds fans: Cincinnati is a hellhole.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Isn’t this like caring what France thinks about us?

Sure, a well reasoned comment will prevent that sort of thing.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

was anyone else bothered by the fact that No Reservations went to skyline chili on the cleveland eppisode? i actually bet it bothered cincy folks, too. “hey, that’s ours!” you can keep it.
I’ll eat Skyline Chili. I’ll even like it. But it’s not chili.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Yeah, that bothered me, too. It’s like that didn’t want to do a Cincinnati episode, so they stuck into the Cleveland one.
I’m still pissed that despite watching hours and hours of the show I haven’t yet seen the Cleveland episode
i had to record first run and repeats for litterally 3 months, deleting the 900 runnings of tokyo in order to catch the one time they aired this eppisode a couple weeks ago.
the Philipines episode is on everytime I look. And although that roasted pork looks good every time, I want to see some Cleveland.

i’ve got it saved if you want to grab your g.i. joe’s and come over.
in the meantime, i’ll use only one P when i type words like apple a couple times in the coming days to balance things back out in the letter world.
NO!!!!
Philippines
What is that second ‘p’ doing anyway?

What was on the Cleveland episode? I saw the DC one last week, pretty cool.
I'm *always* in the driver's seat, cugino -- Chuck
west side market, of course. they went to some southern dive with mike simon. skyline, as discussed. i think they went some place that involved sausage. there was something else, but it is escaping me right now.
I just think it’s a baseball player not taking value in statistics that aren’t easily measured. You’d never hear a player say RBI aren’t important.
OBP is very easily measured. It’s easier to measure than batting average.
It’s an accident of history that everyone is familiar with batting average but not OBP.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Why are you surprised that Phillips said that?
He is playing for a manager who became infamous in Chicago for espousing his theory that “walks just clog the bases”.
