I know this isn’t a Manny thread, but can I just express my disbelief that he might get a player option on the second year of his 2-year $45 M contract. I know the theory goes that he’s been a great hitter every year of his career, and never misses significant time, and shows no sign of slowing down…

BUT he is a 37 year old with a lot of playing mileage. Sure, he might hit as long as Bonds, but there is some non-trivial amount of risk that he crashes this year. I can’t believe that in this market, with those dollars, that the Dodgers would have to bear that risk, even if it’s small.

In fairness to the Big Hug, a lot of folks saw big things for Crosby, including Beane, who gets a lot of things right.

Looks like they’ll be adding Nomar to the mix, as well. Does he have anything left in the tank?
