Lineup of spare parts today.

by dgcambridge on Mar 20, 2009 4:30 PM EDT reply actions

Basketball… so that’s why no one’s here.

by Logodaedalus on Mar 20, 2009 4:32 PM EDT reply actions

My box scores says that Pavano is having trouble with the strike zone.

by dgcambridge on Mar 20, 2009 4:32 PM EDT reply actions

Garko-Barfield-Crowe-Marte-Valdez

Now that’s how you optimize a lineup!

by dgcambridge on Mar 20, 2009 4:45 PM EDT reply actions

hmm…Pavano….

Marte gets a hit!

by JimmyAB on Mar 20, 2009 4:58 PM EDT reply actions

WiVal follows up Marte with a single. 2 on, 1st and 2nd, no outs.

by JimmyAB on Mar 20, 2009 5:01 PM EDT reply actions

Carrol keeps it going with a single. Bases loaded. Still no outs.

by JimmyAB on Mar 20, 2009 5:02 PM EDT reply actions

i expect the next guy to get a single that doesn’t score a run.

by Brick. on Mar 20, 2009 5:03 PM EDT up reply actions

You predicted poorly…

by JimmyAB on Mar 20, 2009 5:04 PM EDT up reply actions

i didn’t know asdrubal was up. you’re my only eyes and ears here.

by Brick. on Mar 20, 2009 5:05 PM EDT up reply actions

i see the above listing of players apears to be in order.

by Brick. on Mar 20, 2009 5:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Too much pressure for me. You are missing Hammy laughing it up.

by JimmyAB on Mar 20, 2009 5:06 PM EDT up reply actions

i’m bouncing from my desk to my back table doing shop drawings. can’t really listen today.

by Brick. on Mar 20, 2009 5:07 PM EDT up reply actions

AstroCab with bases clearing triple!

by JimmyAB on Mar 20, 2009 5:03 PM EDT reply actions

Hafner with a sac fly.

by JimmyAB on Mar 20, 2009 5:05 PM EDT reply actions

i’m fine with this.

by Brick. on Mar 20, 2009 5:05 PM EDT up reply actions

in fact, if we can find a way to have a guy on third with less that 2 outs every time hafner comes to the plate this year, i’m confident he will have a monster RBI output.

by Brick. on Mar 20, 2009 5:06 PM EDT up reply actions

he got a bunch of those in 07, if I remember properly.

Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.

by westbrook on Mar 20, 2009 6:41 PM EDT up reply actions

For some reason I can accept that Lee’s spring training is nothing to worry about, but for Pavano, it’s like a nail in a coffin. Today will also mark Greg Aquino’s last second rise to the 7th bullpen spot. DO IT, GREGORI

Note: Not really last second.

by JRontherim on Mar 20, 2009 5:06 PM EDT reply actions

Victor draws a walk. Still one out.

by JimmyAB on Mar 20, 2009 5:06 PM EDT reply actions

Garko flies s out to shallow right (?).

by JimmyAB on Mar 20, 2009 5:10 PM EDT reply actions

He’ll pick it up mid-August.

by JimmyAB on Mar 20, 2009 5:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Barfield grounds out weakly. End of inning. tied 4 – 4.

by JimmyAB on Mar 20, 2009 5:11 PM EDT reply actions

vintage barfield.

by Brick. on Mar 20, 2009 5:11 PM EDT up reply actions

At least he left it tied and didn’t have a run taken off the board… somehow.

by JimmyAB on Mar 20, 2009 5:13 PM EDT up reply actions

I hear this droobs fellow is good

by APV on Mar 20, 2009 5:14 PM EDT reply actions

with nominal anxiety

by Brick. on Mar 20, 2009 5:15 PM EDT up reply actions

its hard to quantify but i would think that youd have to suppose perhaps maybe

As General Manager of this team, I demand to know when I'm getting a start.

by bigbrabbs on Mar 20, 2009 5:16 PM EDT up reply actions

2 run homer for Cunningham (?) Followed by a single from Pennington. Davis with a double. Runners 2nd and 3rd (?) 1 out now.

by JimmyAB on Mar 20, 2009 5:21 PM EDT reply actions

Barfield with a diving catch to rob Nomar and end the inning. I missed some stuff along the way and got something wrong with base runners and outs. Hey, it’s spring training.

by JimmyAB on Mar 20, 2009 5:23 PM EDT reply actions

Barfield with a diving catch.

hmm

by Brick. on Mar 20, 2009 5:24 PM EDT up reply actions

that is what Hammy screamed.

by JimmyAB on Mar 20, 2009 5:27 PM EDT up reply actions

hmm…Pavano….

by APV on Mar 20, 2009 5:24 PM EDT reply actions

i think i’ve decided i’m not going to put any energy to hoping for or worrying about pavano.

by Brick. on Mar 20, 2009 5:25 PM EDT up reply actions

when I was on the radio a couple of weeks back, the guy told me he thought Pavano was a key to the season. I had to keep myself from laughing…Pavano – really? But I am worried that Pavano might be a key, but not because we need his victories, but because we need to prevent his mediocre crapitude from bring us down. I know I’m real negative on the guy, but…I’m real negative on the guy.

by APV on Mar 20, 2009 5:28 PM EDT up reply actions

adding…and it’s not because there is any particular reason to think Pavano will be bad. It’s just there is no reason that I know of to think he’ll be good.

by APV on Mar 20, 2009 5:29 PM EDT up reply actions

i think no matter what he does, he’ll use up our bullpen. getting shelled or leaving after 5 or 6 innings with a 1 run lead.

by Brick. on Mar 20, 2009 5:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, I think I view him as the 09 version of the 07 Byrd.

Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.

by westbrook on Mar 20, 2009 6:42 PM EDT up reply actions

I think thats his upside.

by Ryan Kelsey on Mar 21, 2009 10:59 AM EDT up reply actions

Crowe got on and stole a base(s). Carrol just brought him in with a single. Carrol just nailed trying to steal second to end the inning.

by JimmyAB on Mar 20, 2009 5:31 PM EDT reply actions

i was lost till you corrected this.

by Brick. on Mar 20, 2009 5:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Imagine if I’d said Carrol brings in Crow.

by JimmyAB on Mar 20, 2009 5:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Scott Lewis in for us now. Score is 6 – 5.

by JimmyAB on Mar 20, 2009 5:34 PM EDT reply actions

1-2-3 inning for Lewis. Fly out in foul territory. A weak bouncer on the infield and Strikeout (I think). And not in that order.

by JimmyAB on Mar 20, 2009 5:38 PM EDT reply actions

I have no idea if SLewis can be good. But I at least can identify reasons he might be good.

no – just trying to contrast the difference in my feelings towards Pavano and SLewis

by APV on Mar 20, 2009 5:44 PM EDT up reply actions

I saw him in spring training earlier this week or last week and he looked very good.

by JimmyAB on Mar 20, 2009 5:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Asdrubal up. Flies out. Hafner up and grounds out. VMart crushes one out to right. Tie game.

by JimmyAB on Mar 20, 2009 5:42 PM EDT reply actions

victor is where we want him. hafner, please take notes.

by Brick. on Mar 20, 2009 5:43 PM EDT up reply actions

From Hamilton’s call and the sound off the bat, Hafner just missed one in his first at bat. Caught near the wall in right center. I’m just being optimistic and watching how he progresses.

by JimmyAB on Mar 20, 2009 5:48 PM EDT up reply actions

ALL i’m really hoping for right now is health. he’ll come back or he won’t. but he definitley won’t if his shoulder acts up.

by Brick. on Mar 20, 2009 5:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Victor is gonna be big

So 2009.

by Gradyforpresident on Mar 20, 2009 5:43 PM EDT up reply actions

SLewis still in. Strikes out Crosby. Cunningham broken bat bloop single. Pennington flies out to shallow right. Davis hits a come-backer to Lewis who throws to first for the final out.

by JimmyAB on Mar 20, 2009 5:54 PM EDT reply actions

sounds like he’s sharp.

by Brick. on Mar 20, 2009 5:57 PM EDT up reply actions

For the record, when Hazel M asked Pavano what stuff he was working on this spring, he said “I’m working on trying to get outs!” Keep working Carl. Give us 90 innings of 4.70 ball please.

by dgcambridge on Mar 20, 2009 5:58 PM EDT reply actions

Barfield, Crowe, and Marte. Gone, 1,2,3.

by JimmyAB on Mar 20, 2009 6:01 PM EDT reply actions

SLewis in for another go. Cust out on a nice play by WiVal. Barfield with another diving catch in left center field for the second out. A’s saying he trapped the ball… Umps say “It’s ST. Sit down”. Buck with a ground out to second.

by JimmyAB on Mar 20, 2009 6:08 PM EDT reply actions

Barfield getting himself a job, nice work kid. Trevor, this means you’ll get to play everyday in Columbus.

by dgcambridge on Mar 20, 2009 6:10 PM EDT up reply actions

I think Trevor’s roster spot depends more on Dellucci than Barfield

by APV on Mar 20, 2009 6:12 PM EDT up reply actions

OK. Trevor, the dream is back on!

by dgcambridge on Mar 20, 2009 6:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Really, I can’t see them deciding to dump Dellucci at the beginning of the season (unless someone wants him). There’s no rush, why not wait? Give Crowe some more at-bats, and see what Dellucci has left. For all the crap DD takes, I would much rather have him pinch hitting in a key situation than Crowe.

by dgcambridge on Mar 20, 2009 6:25 PM EDT up reply actions

especially off of Justin.

by Jay on Mar 20, 2009 7:58 PM EDT up reply actions

Indians up. I don’t know who grounds out. Carroll broken bat ball to first for second out. Canofzeros with a gritty 6 pitch walk. Hafner up. Wild pitch puts runner at second. pRONK jammed and flies out to center.

Canofzeros

Haha Cannizaro?

by supermarioelia on Mar 20, 2009 6:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Is Hafner reaching deep counts at least? Or is he just as anxious as he was last year?

n00b question: Where do game threads usually appear?

I thought it was on the main page, then I missed one that was a fanshot, now this one is a fanpost..

by Clevo's Finest on Mar 20, 2009 6:29 PM EDT reply actions

Actual game threads show up on the main page as long as one of the site mods is around to post or promote it. Spring training … well, like Barfield, we shuffle them around, get their work in.

by fleerdon on Mar 20, 2009 6:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Should add, I think there’s an auto-post function for the site mods as well. That or Ryan is one extraordinarily sober and diligent dude.

by fleerdon on Mar 20, 2009 6:33 PM EDT up reply actions

I think in the regular season game threads are automated. Right now it is sort of first come, first serve. I would have gotten one up today but I was crammed getting ready for a conference. I’d have promoted this one to the front page (thanks, Fred), but only Jay and Ryan can do that.

by APV on Mar 20, 2009 6:36 PM EDT up reply actions

OK. one more. SLewis still pitching. Gives up a single to someone. Dolittle gets a single as well. Runners 1st and 2nd. Petite showing bunt. Bunts and is thrown out at first by Lewis. Runners advance. Cunningham intentionally walked. Bases loaded. Wimberly induced into inning ended DP. SLewis a bit shakey but gets the job done!

Jay Marshall pitching for Oakland. Victor walks; Gimenez pinch runs. Brantley sac bunt; Gimenez to 2nd. Barfield singles; Gimenez to 3rd. LaPorta, “with a terrific piece of pitching”, singles to score Gimenez; Barfield to 2nd. Tribe up 7-6. Marte strikes out. Runners advance on a wild pitch to Valdez.

Fickle. Show Laffey some damned respect.

I’m lovin’ SLewis, but he’s started all of eight games — ever — above Double-A. So let’s not pretend like we really know how he’s going to hold up.

Laffey had 15 very fine Triple-A starts and 9 major league starts in 2007 alone, and he went into the 2008 All-Star break with a 129 ERA+. True, he had some problems after that, but SLewis hasn’t even been around long enough to have problems!

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
