Just arrived in Goodyear---few ST questions
One, where's everyone down here drinking? Ok, after that, how easy is it to get autographs at the games? I was thinking of picking up a few balls and trying to get my faves to sign them. Lastly, what is access to the minor league training camp like? Is it near the big boys? I was dissapointed to see Brantley, Laporta, and Rondon sent to the minor league camp right as I got here so I'm hoping to see them play a little while I'm here. Thanks in advanced and Go Tribe!

- FanPost starts with a question about drinking
But we’re still going to give him an avatar.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Under the circumstances, just make him buy Adam a drink in Goodyear.

Thanks guys
I admit, I’m a bit of a lurker and you have to admit I jumped in promising booze so that’s not a bad thing.
Adam, I was at the game today and spent the first five innings sitting just behind and to the right of Shapiro. Wish I had your vantage point but it was still pretty cool. I did watch him when Pavano was pitching and the interest level absolutely went up. How about the defensive plays by Cabrera in the fifth? Single handedly retiring the side with one dazzling player after another had the Padres fans around me asking what his name was to which I responded, ‘Asdrubal Cabrera.’ To which they responded, ‘Assdribble?’ Yes, Assdribble.
The Pads/Mariners park was pretty awesome and what was cooler was getting there early and watching the Pads practice. Their practice fields were situated behind the stadium and there was an area in the middle of them where all the fans could roam free and players would walk through the crowd talking and handing out autographs. Jake Peavy sat and chatted with every fan who wanted an autograph and was one of the most genuinely nice athletes I’ve ever met. He talked about the WBC, his tattoos, and his family with fans. He signed a ball for me as if it was the first one he ever signed. Pretty cool. Also got B. Giles as he was exiting the game. Hope the Goodyear experience is similar.
What will you be wearing tomorrow? I’ll look for you and get that beer someone promised I’d get you.
GO Tribe.

I don’t have my outfit picked out, but like I said, I’ll be in a Michigan hat. I’m going with my dad tomorrow and we’ve got tickets in the outfield, 1B side, 2nd row.

(lowers head and doesn’t mention that Peavy woulda fit in nicely with our guys)
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
Jake Peavy is Sean Casey if Sean Casey were a pitcher and really good.

I lurked for a long time based on some sort of philosophical/political objection to registering with any SBN site that in hindsight seems pretty stupid.
What, you thought SBN is like those MVN douchebags? Or did you think the Daily Kos connection was dubious?
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
I don’t think it’s stupid; it’s a valid concern or at least question of interest. Kos co-founded SBN but has always basically left its operation in Blez’s hands. He used to provide some coaching and cheerleading with regard to improving readership and getting people engaged, but there has never been even a whiff of politics in any SBN communication that I’ve seen. I think Kos’ original involvement had a lot to do with his curiosity and insight about buildling fanatical communities, recognizing that outside of politics, sports is what really gets people riled up — and in particular, specific teams. Just in case you were curious.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
The DailyKos connection. Yeah, he and Blez co-founded it. The original Scoop platform was also very much a part of SBN’s success, too — I knew as soon as I saw LGT, in particular the potential of the Diary section to emphasize user involvement, that this was more than just a blog engine. SBN inherited Scoop from DailyKos, and SBN 2.0 is a major upgrade from the original Scoop platform. DailyKos itself is still running Scoop, however, a sort of 1.5 version that AthleticsNation was actually running on prior to the major upgrade. So SBN definitely has a technological and sociological lineage from DailyKos — and even a philosophical lineage in terms of rejecting the limitations and flaws of “old media” — but definitely not a political lineage, and noticeably so.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Not the same guy. I have no idea what happened to LGT Kos. I actually find it a little disturbing, because he was a pretty active contributor, and then one day he just vanished.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
This may seem over-the-top morbid, but I’ve sometimes wondered about that. No one would notify us in the event that something tragic happened to most of us. We’d just be left wondering.
But we (the mods) have contact info for most users and have correponded with many of the most active ones. When tabler84 disappeared for months, I was still able to e-mail him and say, “Dude, are you dead or are you writing for my book?”
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
I hope someone would have the decency to put an update on my Facebook that I’m dead.

And by ‘No small time’ I mean active, plus I was reading their stuff in the days when it was easier to tell who’s who. I’ve also noticed their absence.
Kos has got to be a teenager by now, eh?
Kidding. Old joke. Kos was the youngest poster back then and scary smart. I think it was the “So,umm, hey” thread that revealed that. I thought he was, like, 30 years old before that thread. I kind of assumed that he’s off working on challenging for the youngest GM crown or something.
In some kind of engineering field no less, right? I think I remember Jay asking him if he could help fix a 16 track reel-to-reel, whatever that means.
I sent messages to C&O for months with no reply. He still updates his Facebook though, so maybe he’s just too cool for us.

I had no idea either…
Oddly, part of the reason I don’t frequent DailyKos is that I find its interface hard on the eyes and confusing, even compared to other political blogs. This is to say, I love SBN 2.0.
