Neyer high on Indians, sort of
Rob discusses the scott lewis selection and ends with this:
"I like the Indians. I think they're going win their division. But their No. 1 starter isn't going to go 22-3 again, their No. 2 starter went 8-7 last season and Nos. 3 through 5 are question marks wrapped in enigmas surrounded by conundrums. So at the very least, it should be an interesting spring and summer in Cleveland."

The way I look at it with our #1 and # starters is that I believe we will get more than 30 combined wins from Lee/Carmona in 2009 versus 2008, one way or another.

I got screwed up with the formatting (I can type so I thought) – #1 and #2 starters

I still don’t see how Fausto won’t win the Cy.
So 2009.

100% chance Carmona wins the 2009 Cy Young award.

I don’t think Neyer is Insider content any more.

Could be, but look at the link:

That’s true, but it works for me & I haven’t given ESPN any of my money. You can change it to just www.espn.go.com/blahblah and it works too (yay free Neyer).
DISCLAIMER: I may be bitter.

Good. I just let my subscription lapse (so I could “afford” mlb.tv), and it was unclear how I was accessing Neyer’s stuff.
Guess I still get to read Rob.

An assortment of comments from the ESPN comments section:
When Carl Pavano is your #3 starter, you are essentially looking for a perfect storm of fortune or you’re in big trouble. And it’s not as if #2 starter Carmona has a track record of many successes, either.
no one has even mentioned how mediocre to bad the bullpen is.
The Twins could have 3 starters (Liriano, Baker and Slowey) who could be as good as, if not better than Lee this year.
Cliff Lee was a nobody before last year.
this team had Cliff Lee and CC Sabathia last year, and still finished under .500.
If there were more than 19 comments, I might not have been able to make it through to the end.

I can’t really quarrel with any of these, except for the second one.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

and there’s the minor point that they didn’t finish under .500 but exactly at .500…

Well, at the point they were officially “finished,” they were well below .500.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
