Around SBN: Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e Stoudemire Vow To Fit In With Lin

Game Thread: Indians vs. Giants, March 27

The Tribe plays a road game against some guys who may or may not play in San Francisco this year.  Lineups per Castrovince:

INDIANS: CF Grady Sizemore, 3B Mark DeRosa, 1B Victor Martinez, SS Jhonny Peralta, C Kelly Shoppach, RF Ben Francisco, 2B Asdrubal Cabrera, LF Josh Barfield. LHP Cliff Lee.

Also available to pitch: RHPs Rafael Betancourt, Joe Smith, Jensen Lewis.

GIANTS: CF Andres Torres, LF Eugenio Velez, RF Nate Schierholtz, 3B Pablo Sandoval, 1B Rich Aurilia, SS Juan Uribe, C Buster Posey, 2B Kevin Frandsen. RHP Jonathan Sanchez.

With the exception of Barfield in the outfield, that's pretty much a regular lineup, with actual real-life major league pitchers.  No DH, so no Hafner bloop doubles. Discuss.

Whatever you’re gutter-thinking, I doubt you want it to be with Lonnie Soloff.

Top of the first summary:

  • Sizemore bunt single
  • SB, error allowing Grady to take 3rd
  • DeRosa GO
  • Martinez K
  • Peralta K

Sanchez gave up a lot of runs last year, but struck out a bunch of guys, too.

by FredOx on Mar 27, 2009 4:16 PM EDT reply actions

Two singles, the second with runner on the move, puts runners on the corners. Then an Asdrubal error lets in a run. Still no outs.

(1) Blame Castro.
(2) No.

by FredOx on Mar 27, 2009 4:29 PM EDT up reply actions

But this could be where Barfield gets at-bats, no? Our other outfielders are lefties, unless you count Garko.

by dgcambridge on Mar 27, 2009 4:32 PM EDT up reply actions

That would be another way to go against lefties. I wonder if, in that case, we’d have Carroll at 3rd and DeRosa in the OF.

i had thought this to start the spring. then i thought, why not just have carroll play in the outfield then. then i thought…. wait, they’re trying garko out there, really?

I hope Wedge ripped into the team after the game today. Spring training is spring training, but they looked like one of the stalls at old Municipal at the end of a Browns game in the first inning. Lee was bad, but his team certainly wasn’t doing him any favors. And to his credit, Lee was getting a lot of swings and misses.
