Barfield claims final roster spot
"The Indians, as expected, will carry Barfield as the 25th man on their roster this season. Outfielder Trevor Crowe, Barfield's primary competition for the job, was optioned down to Triple-A Columbus on Saturday, along with catcher Chris Gimenez. Veteran Tony Graffanino, who was also competing for the job, will remain on the big league roster in case of injury, but is expected to accept an assignment to Columbus."

You mean who’s in the bullpen?
Wood, Jensen Lewis, Rafael Perez, Rafael Betancourt, Masa Kobayashi, Joe Smith, and either Vinnie Chulk or Zach Jackson.

Good for Barfield and all… but Yawn. Can they start playing real games now?
Still the local "Barfield Bounces Back Believer" and confident that there's still a lot of Pronk in Hafner. Oh, and for all the love of Cliffy, there's still a Sleepy Kitten inside.

What’s lost in all the Barfield/Crowe debate is that Ryan Garko is now thought competent enough to play in the outfield. As in, a more viable outfielder than David Dellucci, which isn’t saying much, but still.

The boy’s gonna rake this year – just you wait and see.

I’ll believe it when I see it, but that would make me a happy camper. I really like Garko, and would love for him to be a solid player for the Tribe, even if he turns into a super-sub.

Drowning in school right now, but I’m trying to keep up. I’ve since twice in person Garko play the outfield this spring, and one day was the day he made the great running basket-catch on the warning track in Kerry Wood’s debut inning. He’s not Franklin Gutierrez, and I’d like to see how he holds up statistically over a year out there, but he looked capable.

Might help if you weren’t slipping into Yoda-speak.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Do you really think they’re saying that Garko will get more than a handful of outfield starts in the outfield? I think they are more concerned with being able to pinch-hit him for a lefthander facing a tough lefty — Choo or Dellucci — and have him able to take a spot in the outfield for an inning or three. For all the time they’ve spent on him in the outfield, I won’t be surprised if he gets no starts out there. I think they just want to have that option.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Department of Redundancy Department
One of the world’s great mysteries is how many people find this amusing, i.e., worth saying or typing.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Isn’t it kinda – oh I don’t know – redundant?
by mauichuck on Mar 29, 2009 7:10 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
right, that was the central part of the comment.

This was totally unclear, in retrospect, but this was sarcastic. As in, “Right, because that was the central part of the comment.”

I always preferred the department of redundancies and unnecessary repetitions

Better. Still not worth using as a joke more than once a decade, but better.

Adam, dude, don’t be so negative. Vic’s gonna have a career year, Grady’s still a monster and Peralta’s the biggest SS bat in the AL. We’ve got plent of fire power to go with ++ SP and a hellova bullpen.
This is gonna be our year – I can feel it.
