Castro: Choo's arm is sore.
Left elbow soreness.
The article mentioned he may just DH for S. Korea or not play at all, but the decision is the Indians' to make.
The above is from the original AP report- found here.
CastroTurf says two things materially different:
1.) its Choo's triceps that is sore, not his surgically repaired elbow.
2.) It is Choo and the S. Korea team that has the final say, not the Indians.
""Right now, we're in the process of getting the complete info as to the problem he's encountered," general manager Mark Shapiro said this morning. "From there, we'll determine whether or not we object.""

I really hope that the Indians let Choo play. I get the nervousness over having the pitchers go this early in the year and the injury risk. I just don’t like the over-protectiveness with position players. Let ‘em play. I think at this point, getting Choo AB’s in pressure situations is a good thing and can only help season him for the future. At least let him DH and not play the field.
Plus, this may be a great opportunity to get some type of Korean Army exemption.
And you know some marketing guy in the FO is drooling over the dream of Choo having a monster WBC and all the Korean fans it’ll create to buy Tribe gear.
Still the local "Barfield Bounces Back Believer" and confident that there's still a lot of Pronk in Hafner. Oh, and for all the love of Cliffy, there's still a Sleepy Kitten inside.

The Tribe would only get 1/30 of whatever Korean fans buy. The teams split their share of uniform sales equally.

Interesting. I did not know this.

The players also split their share equally — at least for guys who spend the full year in the majors. Mark DeRosa gets the same cut as Grady on the sale of a Grady jersey.

Aha, but this does not apply to my Team Thome or Omar Vizquel Apparel caps. (no joke)

The left elbow is the TJ one.

ugh that’s what I was afraid of
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.

Castro now saying it is the left triceps, not the elbow, although the AP article he links to still says elbow.

I just saw that and updated the fanshot.

left elbow and left tricep aren’t necessarily different, or at least unrelated, things

Yeah, I recall Jason Stanford had a “sore forearm” before TJ, and I swear I remember someone else with becip soreness that led to the same procedure.
In other words, anything awry between shoulder and wrist can mean elbow.

More quick notes from Castro:
- Hafner will play Friday.
- Wood is throwing another bull pen and then will play Tuesday.
- Miller is Miller.

TMI.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

On a similar note, Weglarz will not likely see action until tomorrow because of his sore ankle. He is expected to start against the US this weekend.

Thanks for the link. Now things are getting interesting.
I like this:
But Korean Manager In-Sik Kim said, "It’s the other part of the elbow where he has his pain."

Castro is now saying it’s sort of elbow but emphasizing that it’s not bad.
Also, Miller is down for ten days. Whatever.

Let’s hope Miller has no more problems after those 10 days are up (I know we’ve had similar wishes before, but we can hope, right?)

You’d think that if Choo’s arm is sore (whether it’s the triceps, elbow, etc.) that it could affect his hitting; if he’s not able to hit effectively, why would South Korea even play him?
I could see him trying to play at first, but if he’s not that effective, I would think South Korea wouldn’t play him. I just hope Choo doesn’t further aggravate the injury if he does try to play.
One other thing: Isn’t it odd that the Indians don’t have the final say in whether Choo can play in the WBC – after all, the Indians are his employer, they’re the ones that have the money invested in him, and it’s the MLB season that is the primary season, not the WBC (with all due respect to those involved in the WBC). I know the WBC provides great pride to those who play in it, but wouldn’t the prudent thing be that, if you’re going to miss time, it would make more sense to miss the WBC, rather than try to play in it and possibly injuring yourself where you miss part of the MLB season, which is the primary goal?
Just a question to consider and my 2 cents.

It seems unclear who has the final say. The Korean manager is quoted as saying the Indians have the final say. But, Castro made it sound like Choo and the Korean team had the final say. I think the Indians could have kept him off the roster, but they may not have the right to stop him from playing once he is on it.

I have the final say. I’m holding out for bulgogi, kimchi and maekju.

Kimchi is some nasty nasty stuff (shudders) ….

Visited Korea many times, and I will taste it out of respect of the people I am visiting … I just don’t like the taste.
The other stuff I can’t stand is the nasty smelling hot soup served with sticky rice.
Other than that I can tolrerate the rest of the food (minus sushi of course – that is not my thing). I just wish I could find some good Soju here in the states.

I would hope soju is better in Korea, because the stuff I had was terrible

This would be a lot more tolerable if he hurt his elbow punching a guy in the nose in a bar in De Land, Florida.

We need a WBC thread at some point. O/T, but South Africa has a 16 year-old on their roster: Hein Robb.

Yes, Weglarz about to tee off against Justin.

AAAAND……
Nick draws a walk. OK, that was the most likely pro-Tribe outcome. Actually, Joba has gone walk, single, walk (Nick), walk (run), walk (run).
And he’s been pulled, with the bases loaded and no outs. That’s what I think has happened (there’s no audio, just a box score. Also, it’s 2009).

Outside of anything tribe-related, I don’t know if there is anything I am rooting for more than for Justin to suck this year.

Yeah, I don’t root for injuries, but I am rooting for him to be a head case.

They batted around +1 last inning. Wegz is set to lead off the next frame.

There was an article I think in the NY Post that said Justin would be opening the new stadium against the Tribe if the rotation slots the way they expect it to
