More Sports and Even More Levin(e) and Kenny Roda
Just thought you guys would like to know, I'm back in full-on media whore mode. I'm booked to do some radio and TV appearances to promote the Indians Annual, which I started yesterday morning and continued this afternoon, showing up on Y-103 Youngstown both times.
Tonight, I'll be appearing (as disembodied voice) on More Sports and Les Levine, shortly after the show begins at 6:00 p.m. MS&LL is on NEON, Channel 23 on Time-Warner Cable. (Some of you may remember Les from his 10th Inning show on 3WE back in the 80's.)
Later on, I'm doing a segment with Kenny Roda on WKNR 850 ... I believe you can listen live online at the link above. That segment should start shortly after 7:30 p.m.

That could be interesting. I don’t know how open either of them are to your style of thinking. Roda especially is a Cavs guy, but I’ll give him credit that during the trade rumors last year he seemed to be the first guy talking about LaPorta and our links with the Brewers.

Some of these will actually be posted at the MSP website.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

As further evidence of LGT taking over the world, I’ll be on Toledo’s WSPD 1370 Sunday night sometime during the 7:30-7:45 slot during the Benchwarmers program. I’ll be doing my pale impersonation of Jay. I think you can stream it from their website.

quick…10 minutes at most. Kind of pointless questions (e.g. When Westbrook comes back, where does he fit in? Who gets bumped from the rotation?).

Wow, that is a pretty dumb question.

One of the guys said he thought Carl Pavano was the most important player for the 2009 season. I’ll just say it was a good thing it was on the radio and not on TV, my facial expression was not a kind one.

Yeah, one of my radio guys said something similar. I have emphasized that Pavano is only one of 7-8 options the Indian have for three spots in the rotation, and that his salary is less than half what they paid Jason Johnson. That means that while he might pleasantly surprise us, he isn’t a player that the Indians are counting on to perform — and it’s a good thing, too.

i talked about the same – very small salary commitment, anything we get from him is basically a bonus, depth is more important than any one guy (after Lee and Carmona)

I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed all four spots but especially Levine and Roda, both of whom actually had read the book and were enthused about it. Levine wanted to talk about Ryan’s Top 25 piece, Roda was gushing about the “21st Century Indians Closers” table and the five-year depth chart. It’s very easy to talk about the book with people who actually ask you about the book. I didn’t plug LGT as much as I intended to, but on 850 AM radio, that’s probably a good thing.

Speaking of the book…..gah I swear someone from the USPS is walking the book up here from Philly. Wouldn’t mind reading it between innings of the Canada-US tilt on Saturday…speaking of which, anyone else planning on coming to the game?

So last night I was at Giant Eagle and saw the Indians Annual on the shelf. I had to take pause as I reached for the Annual. You see, they had placed the IA immediately next to the SI Swimsuit Issue. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love me some swimsuits. But in the end, I fought through the urge and picked up my copy of the Annual instead of the SI.
I do have to commend Giant Eagle on excellent placement of the Annual. As soon as a guy puts down the SI issue, he’s bound to reach for something that is baseball-related. Good thing the Annual is right there.
My dad e-mailed me today absolutely gushing… he heard Jay’s interview with Roda on the radio and totally geeked out, thinking it was the coolest thing ever listening to Jay, editor of a book the Jay so graciously sent him just in time for his birthday.

Hey, I’m just a man — I put my pants on one leg at a time just like everybody else.
Or at least, I would, if I weren’t sitting in my underwear in my mother’s basement.

I actually wear Green Lantern jammies. That’s just how I roll.

I expected Aquaman. Somehow, I figured that if anyone could find value in the worst superhero ever, it’d be you.

The worst superhero(es) ever were the Great Lakes Avengers, whose members included Big Bertha, Flatman, Doorman and Dinah Soar. But the best was Squirrel Girl, who had the power to control squirrels, accompanied by her squirrel sidekicks, Monkey Joe and (later) Tippy-Toe.

It’s funny you should say this considering your avatar is from a movie featuring a cast of heroes with no powers whatsoever. At least Squirrel Girl’s got squirrels. Although I guess that’s as useful as the time Meg Griffin could grow her nails really fast.
