Around SBN: Randy Moss A Raven?

Jimmy Rollins deserves some recognition for this commercial. It caught me by surprise and I really enjoyed it.

Really enjoyed this. Fine performance by Rollins.

I’ve got a soft spot for a number of Phillies – Rollins and Utley leading the way

I know and like a lot of the Phillies. Rollins is a little overrated, but I have to admit that he exceeded my expectations of him from a few years ago.

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

His facial expressions are classic.

Don't be stupid. PUT IN MELOAN.

I love that he was probably getting hit with nerf balls or something, just to work out the timing for the later digital addition of ‘baseballs’, so these expressions are his perception of how he’d react if hit with a baseball and was being tough.

That kind of thing cracks me up.

That was much better than I expected.

Love this. I first saw it on Darren Rovell’s blog, which adds this:

As for how it was done, we’re told by Dick’s chief marketing officer Jeff Hennion that they used foam balls and sound effects were added later. But Hennion reports that they did so many takes that it went on for 2 1/2 hours and, after a couple hundred foam balls in the chest, it started to get a little uncomfortable for Rollins.

You know Selig? Ombudsman.

I’d bet there’s a thin chest-plate in there too.

No chest plate! Man up!

This is one of the few times that I have thought a commercial would be more funny without someone getting hit in the crotch. It just seems so gratuitous.

After watching it a few times, I finally noticed that bit at the end where one of the kids takes it in the stomach/chest, doubles over and then Rollins swats him. That’s comedy right there.
