Tragic End for Minor League "Batman"
Unusual story. Tried to write a quick comment on it but failed - seems like it would need a larger treatment to do it justice.

that is just awful.
There is a significant lack of beards in this year's clubhouse...

Pretty insensitive to trade a player for…bats! Does anyone believe the claim that it wasn’t a stunt? A team claims they won’t take $1,000 cash…but will take 10 $65 bats instead, and then never use them?
I can’t believe Ripleys still plans to display the bats.

Ripley’s is not exactly a bastion of good taste.

I don’t get the article’s repeated implication that this hasn’t happened before. Indy teams make these deals on an infrequent basis.

Didn’t anybody tell the kid it was just baseball?

Interesting line from his manager from last year:
"I was shocked," he said. "Unfortunately, it doesn’t surprise me."
So shocked, but at the same time, not surprised. You hear stuff like this all the time in these situations. I would normally say he contradicted himself, but who knows in this case.
