I was sitting in the second row behind home plate at the Angels game when Kerry debuted. This photographer came down and set up in the aisle, shooting him the whole time. After the inning I asked who he worked for and he said SI. He had been waiting two weeks to get Kerry in a game situation for the preview issue. And here it is.
Hey, I know, some guys get Shapiro and Antonetti……

What is this about Raffy P’s regression? This is the second time it’s been mentioned. Did I just completely miss something last year?

No. You’ll find Perez regression talk from national writers who aren’t paying close attention. I exchanged e-mails with Heyman a couple months ago. He struck me as kind of a dumbass, to be honest.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Hello Jay,
To me, and I could be incorrect, Perez was the best of the “Big 3” (Perez, Betancourt, and Lewis) last season until about the last month of the season, when Perez started to struggle a bit and Lewis ran off that 12/13 or 13/13 consecutive saves streak.
Up until around September, Perez was the only one of the three who looked moreless like he did in 2007. Perez was a little more wild and inconsistent as compared to 2007, but compared to Betancourt and Lewis, he looked the closest to his 2007 form up until September.
Therefore, I find it hard to believe that Perez is just going to “fall off the map” and be that poor. Sure, anything can happen, but based on track record, age, and ability, I would think Perez is probably as strong or stronger a bet than the other two to continue performing at a high level.
I say “stronger” in Perez’s case because Betancourt’s age is starting to become a negative, plus he’s been a bit iffy this spring (though one can’t read too much into that, granted), and Lewis’ stuff being questionable (questionable velocity and whether his stuff is truly that good; I think it’s more Lewis’ demeanor and how he goes after the hitter that really enables him to do well in the back-end of the bullpen, rather than having purely great stuff, which I think Perez and even Betancourt have an edge over Lewis).
Just my 2 cents.
The "cream of the crop" doesn't always rise to the top.
This is the original version before I cleaned it up for the annual (and then it was cleaned up some more by their photo people).

We actually are not permitted to post the version in the Annual, since MSP owns that version.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
For the record, I’m going to rec this every time I see it. I’ve tried to rec it in the Annual.

I can’t wait for the day Wedge calls up the bullpen and calls “Golf Balls” out to the mound

Have you seen the Baseball Analysts stuff about him, where they basically just pinpoint him as a Scott Boras lackey?
Yeah, but that wouldn’t make him a dumbass necessarily.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

What’s up with that lie/don’t lie thing?
• are you supposed to be able to click them?
• is the carmona thing lie or not?
Travis Hafner is overrated. Clarity is underrated. David Dellucci is David Dellucci.
Yeah, that lie/don’t lie thing strikes me as kind of a dumbass, too.
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

That’s in the magazine, too, and it fits much better there. The underline here makes it look like it should be a link or something (the format is different in the magazine so it’s easier to understand). Basically, for every team they pick a stat and decide if that stat is an accurate description of the player or not. It would be good if used correctly (for example, showing a pitchers ERA and then telling their BABIP was extremely high so they weren’t actually that bad last year. That would be a “lie”.)
Santana has a “shotgun arm”?
Does that mean it’s extremely powerful but inaccurate at long distances? Rube Baker?
Carmona for Cy Young 2009
Santana has a shotgun arm. It’s packing sabots.

Well, our projected lead has grown to 7 games, which is bigger than anyone except the Cubs. Not that our projection has gotten better. The rest of the division is getting worse/injured.
